I am in Houston this week on business, I will have a full day and a half day of free time. Any good dealers or coin shops I should visit ? Looking for US type coins and world Silver. Thanks, Mike
Coin Dealers The best bet for tomorrow is a coin show on the north side of town. Take I-45 North and exit Richey Rd. If you see FM 1960 you went too far. I have never been to a show by this promoter but there are usually 20 + dealers at the other shows that come to town. I second Williams, Bob is great and I have been doing business with him for years! Royal coin was always OK but I haven't been there in years, coin show would be the best bet if you can make it. There is a big one off of old Katy road near memorial city mall, can't think of the name, they had a lot of stuff but I wasn't impressed with their attitude the one time I went in.
Was able to stop by Collectors Coin Shop today. Picked up a few nice coins at a fair price. The owner made me feel like a long time customer. He was impressed when i told him I was refered by Coin Talk. Told me that he is closing up shop in Oct. and moving to Florida. I was a stranger in his town and he took time to visit. I hope to get back before he leaves. I also stopped by the one in Katy. cncman was correct. I walked out of there feeling like an intruder. They hade a nice coin I was really interested in, but could not get anyone to approach me. Clerk walked by me 3 times with a cell phone stuck in her ear, never once offered to help. I ended up walking out of the store empty handed.
I pretty much go to Williams Coin down in Clear Lake....call ahead and try to catch Bob or Jorene there....very nice folks, fair prices. I been buying from them for over 12 years now....and welcome to Texas!
When I go to Williams, they seem more interested in selling me something than discussing something. I made a point to make a $50 purchase right off the bat hoping they would see that I can spend money (and not just coming in to chat), but I still get that attitude. I've been dealing with the son, Eric, perhaps I ought to talk to Bob. Their prices seemed OK on most stuff and I like the shop, but if I have questions, I'd like to discuss it rather than have "Oh, come on, buy it" type messages constantly. Again, I'll go there again and hopefully not get that.
HOW did I miss this on the calendar????? Now I am bummed! I've never been to a coin show and have been wanting to go and I had no idea this one was going on....
If you are in Liberty County go by Liberty Coins on US 90 they specailize in Morgan Silver Dollars, Really nice people there, And if your in Humble The Gold Exchange is OK they have lots of gold Coins there.
