Generally, PCGS is considered slightly more strict than NGC on grading.

PCGS slabs generally sell for more , too.

Case in point, I had a PCGS MS63 1908 N/M saint, cracked it out, sent it to NGC and it graded MS64.

    So...
Crack it out of the NGC case, and sent it back to PCGS...
See if it grades at MS64...
Just because it graded MS63 at PCGS once, doesn't mean it will again...
    Beautiful coin, by the way

Not worth the risk to me, I shouldn'tve cracked it out in the first place, I got lucky.:hammer:

Here's it in the NGC slab

I'll agree that PCGS coins sell for more...but that doesn't mean that they grade more strictly. It's just a market myth. If you look across the board you will find one company grades one series more strictly than the other and vise versa. PCGS may be slightly more strict on St. Gaudens (which is what I have bee trying to figure out)...but "generally" they are about equal from my experience.

Plus, one coin cross TPGs and gaining a point isn't much of a sample size. Sure, it does happen as your coin shows. But, I'm sure the opposite also occurs.

    However, that is a beautiful 1908. ;)

I'd say 63 but very well could grade 64 at NGC or PCGS . Nice coin your Grandmother left you . I'd treasure it always .

Oh, I certainly will. This coin is one of my most prized and I'm sure it will always be.

I would have to go with MS64, and personally, I would go with PCGS. Reguardless to which ever service you use, you still have a beauty!!!

Thanks. To be honest, I still haven't decided. I think both companies are excellent. I am leaning towards NGC because I have always had a preference for them...but I haven't decided. I'm not in a rush.

And if you take the time to look, right here on this forum, you'll find plenty of examples of coins graded MS64 by NGC; submitted to PCGS and graded MS65. You'll also find examples graded MS63 by ICG and then graded as MS64 or 65 by NGC AND PCGS.

I would have to agree with most of you guys and say ms-63: I don't feel the tip of the feather fluff... :D

OK, so here is another question. What kind of membership must a submitted have to submit to NGC. Is it the same as with PCGS and that without a membership one would typically go to a dealer and have them submit it? If so, is there a list of members online. I looked a list of PCGS members on their website and there really aren't many in my area that are convenient.

NGC is easier than PCGS, anyone with an eBay account can submit to NGC, any ANA member can submit to NGC, and of course anyone who purchases a Collector's Society membership can submit to NGC.

IMO, I'd say it is a MS 64. If it were mine I'd send it in to NGC.

So, since I have an eBay account I can submit to NGC? I thought I had read that on here but I wasn't sure. I can't seem to find that on their website. It says, NGC members, NGC dealers and ANA members.

Yes, but I do not readily have the specifics of "how to". Someone else will come along and explain it soon enough.

Thanks Rickie! Yeah, this coin isn't going anywhere. It belonged to my grandma and the main reason I wanted it slabbed was to protect it. It's worth more to me than it's value and I won't ever let it go.
