The Michigan State Numismatic Society website is www.michigancoinclub.org Come visit and post here on CoinTalk your impressions, comments and suggestions. I served as Webmaster 2004-2005 and I have the responsibility again. I have been making changes, updates, and other enhancements. I also write the "Internet Connections" column for The Numismatist, but for obvious reasons, I say very little there about this, though I do get to see a lot of other efforts, just about all of them stunning and stellar.
My ANA column, "Internet Connections" is about club websites this month, a topic that I will revisit in September or October. I confess that working the column gives me a chance to see a lot of good work that inspires me as webmaster of the MSNS site. A couple of asides are in order. I did not design the site. The original work was done by Tracy Tabor of Lansing. She also served as webmaster until I came on board as editor of the MichMatist. At that time, I was given responsibility for both the magazine and the online content. I started off right away making changes to the website -- then stopped... and put it all back the way it was. From that point on, my focus was only on content. After a year or so, Tracy and I asked the club to give her responsibilty for the site again and she did a complete redesign. Then, in 2008, I re-applied to be the webmaster and she demurred. So, now I hack away at it. When it comes time to launch a new presentation, I will find Tracy or another web designer if she is busy. These are two totally different tasks. Some people might do well at both. My own experience is that graphic artists and writers are different people. I once knew a guy, father of a friend, who was equally good at painting and writing. He as a vice president at an advertising agency. I am not that talented. Stop by The MSNS Website. I think it's worth a look. I believe that every local club should consider online presence, if not your own site, then some other convenient way for people in your town to find you. It's a funny thing, but our cat wandered off and the lady behind us took her in. After we got all that straightened out, I went over there to thank her again, but she wasn't home. So, I sent her an email. I sent an email to a neighbor I could talk from this window to her window. Welcome to modern times.
LCCC (Livingston county coin club) is in the process of getting a website up. I need to get more involved. Thanks for the link, I'll check it out this weekend and get back.
