1861 CSA Note

    I had to turn this sideways to get it larger so you can see it. A nice looking $5.00 Confederate States Note but trimmed tight on the edges. This was a common note but it's not folded or stained except for a few small minor ones on the reverse. No holes either.

    If you look closely at the back of the note you may be able to see an X cut on the bill. There are 2 of them, one towards each end. This is not Damage as it was a way to cancel the bill.

    I only bought this for the cancellation marks as I didn't have any and wanted one. It's cut too close to the edge for me.

    Cool note. A lot of these notes came handcut and close to the design, so it likely didn't happen after the fact but maybe. Also, yeah, it looks relatively low grade, folds, and dirt, etc. Along with the cut cancellations. Cut cancels were a way to quite literally "cancel" the value of the note so it no longer had value to purchase things. Cool and thanks for share!
