Friends... The secrete I was talking about has now unfolded! I was after some very rare star notes and it appears that I have won them both. Both are Series 1934 New York Notes...one is a $50 1934 C* and the other is a $20 1934 D* Both are CHCU64 and from what I can see there are none graded higher with either of the TPG Co's. These are truly rare notes for small size. Here are the auction images they are pretty bad to say the least...better ones to come! Here is the Blurb on the (50*)This is the only star Mule note from the $50 1934-C New York district certified to date by PCGS. This is the only uncirculated certified star from the $20 1934-D New York district. Stars on this series are really scarce I am done for a while....but what a great deal I got on 4 notes tonight! I am thrilled about these additions. Thanks for listening to me ramble... Regards, RickieB
Congrats RickieB, Love the "rolled" B on the left hand serial number of the $20 note. Adds character.
Very nice! All of the 1934A, B, C and D $50's are mules. The whole 1934C series for $50's has super low numbers...nice pickup there! At least you don't have to worry about a 1934B $50 for the New York collection. As for the $20, not sure it makes a difference on price and not sure exactly how to tell (with my eyes I probably couldn't), but do you know if it's the wide or narrow version? Congrats! Very nice notes!
I agree! I like it. I just love the look of those older notes. the scroll work is just leagues better then todays notes me thinks. great additions RickieB
Thanks everyone.....I appreciate the comments..waited up until 02:30 to finalize everything. Dursin...the SN# falls in line with the "Wide" variety but will confirm with back plate numbers once the note arrives. Regards, RickieB
Man they look like new bills I love the 1934 series notes...So pretty Yours are so nice, and getting a good deal is always great... Congrats
Rickie , anything less from you would suprise me , keep it up and thanks for sharing these beauties . rzage
awesome notes, RickieB and wtg on getting a good deal! you mention that the $50 is a mule note... educate me please?
Hello Mike.... A Mule note is simply a note that has a Macro Plate number on one side while having a micro plate number on the other side. All Series 1934 $50 notes are Mules....if you had a non Mule $50 from this Series, you would be a very rich man!! When the notes arrive I will show better images and enlargements I will PM to you so that you can have a better look. Regards, RickieB
Very nice notes. Gotta love the older stars. The $20 looks like one I have only mine is a chicago note of course
Here is an example of a mule with the front and back numbers next to each other for easier comparison. Back to the original message in the thread -- Awesome notes! I'm jealous.
Thank you, but I need to update the page. It is my understanding that most mule notes have different size front and back check numbers, but that doesn't necessarily make them mule notes. For example, the Series 1981 $1 Federal Reserve Note Back Check Number Engraving Error is not a mule note. What makes mule note is a Series that uses back plates from another Series. The Series 1963 $1 Federal Reserve Note, for example, has new face plates, but uses back plates from Series 1957 B $1 Silver Certificates. This note is an example of a mule note with a macro back check number:
