Sorting through some AU Morgans, I ran across this one. It might be an AU 50.

When you get the lighting right, you can pick-up on some die clash marks.

Here is a close up depicting where the bridge of nose & lips clashed. Can you see it? Liberty is upside down & facing to the left.

This is where Liberty’s neck clashed.

This was the easiest clash mark to find. It shows where the back of Liberty’s head hit the reverse die.

With all these clash marks on an 1887 Morgan, you have to look for an “E” from Liberty clashed under the eagle’s tail feathers.

Nope. There is no partial E beneath the tail feathers. There is also no alligator eye on the obverse so I guess it’s not a $1,000 top 100 VAM. However, it was fun to find.

Clash marks can be cool. Just wanted to say I really like the color of the coin in post #4 and #6.

Good eyes and great toning on a beautiful coin

Here is a photo depicting how a Morgan obverse might clash onto a reverse. The picture is a little crude but I think it's a good visual.

    Nice.
Along with die cracks I think die clashes give a coin a personality.
