I own both books and would recommend Grading Coins By Photographs. Keep in mind that grading coins is a skill that takes time and training and requires looking at LOTS and LOTS of actual coins, not photographs.

"Making The Grade" has been very helpful thus far for me. I'm a lot better at grading that I used to be and a long way to go I too guess, but, the pics and explanations are great IMHO.

I was just reading about the book 'Making the Grade' in another book i had just last night. It was really intriquing, and i thought about buying that book as well :thumb:

Don't just get one book on grading! Read as much as you can....books, artciles, forums, etc.

I need to buy a few more myself, but here is my list of suggestion:

    ANA Grading Guide
    Photograde
    PCGS Grading Guide

Just make sure to remember that you cannot grade other coins by comparing them to pictures in a book. The pics are terrible.

Also it is NOT possible to grade MS coins based on pictures. The best you can really expect to do even with good quality photos is AU-50. Anything beyond that has to come from experience and in hand examination.
