I am new to this so bare with me. I have a few coins that have been in my family for over 100 years. I would like to know the value of these coins. 1- 1879 silver dollar, looks like it's never been cleaned, and 1- 1891 same condition. Also, a buffalo nickel, date is worn off.
Can someone email me w/approx. worth. Thanks

Hello and welcome to the forum. You did not mention if these coins have mint marks or not. The mint mark would be below the eagles tail on these dollars. If no mark is there, they were minted in Philadelphia. In that case the current wholesale value would be around $8. They could be worth more depending on their condition. But worst case scenario 8 dollars.

Worn Buffalo's are about 10 to 20 cents.

    "O" is for New Orleans.

Well in the lowest condition it would not make a difference.
The price for these different mint marks do separate in higher grades.

The condition of the coin is what determines the grade. The closer the coin is to being exactly like it was the minute it was made - the higher the grade.

Now that doesn't mean bright & shiny - so please don't clean or attempt to polish the coin in hopes of making it better. It won't - it actually makes it worse.

If you can post a pic of the coin - we'd be happy to try and approximate the grade and the value for you.
