Hi all...I'm looking for a 'special' gift for Joe's great grandmother. Her 80th birthday is coming up and I was hoping to find a gold coin from Poland dated 1925. Can anyone tell me what, if any, were made that year? Thanks!
Wow, was she born on the 900th year of Poland. Are you looking for something like these http://search.ebay.com/Poland-gold-1925_W0QQfrppZ50QQfsopZ1QQmaxrecordsreturnedZ300
There is only 1 - the 1925 10 zlotych - Krause value $65 XF - $100 Unc. But the coin was never released into circulation. There are some gold pattern coins that were struck in 1925 - but they would likely be hard to find and rather pricey. Not that the 10 zlotych will be easy to find either.
Wow guys! Thanks for the great info. I must admit that I kinda like the looks of those myself I guess now the hunt begins. Edited to add: Can anyone tell me how big this coin is?
Krause gives its weight as 3.2258g of .900 gold, with an AGW of .09333 oz. (~$35-40 bullion value). The picture, which is supposed to be actual size, measures 18.5mm, about the size of a U.S. cent.
Thanks a bunch Roy! I've been doing some more digging today and found mention of a 20 zlotych gold coin in addition to the 10. Could you help me with the Krause values and any other info for this one as well?
The 20 Zlotych weighs 6.4516 in a composition of 0.9000 gold (.1867 oz.) There were 27,000 coins struck and NONE were released into circulation. Krause shows VF at $90, XF at $100 and UNC. at $185. So the coin is actually about double the size and weight of the 10 Zlotych but probably a tough one to locate. Hope this helps and good luck!
Joesmom, I might add the designs are basically the same on both coins. Only difference is the denomination and size.
Boy oh boy, some women are never satisfied. The 20 Zlotych of 1925 (Y#33) was the same design as the 10, and was also never released into circulation. The mintage of 27,000 at Warsaw has an arrow mint mark. The coin weighs 6.4516g,also .900 gold, with an AGW of .1867 (~$70-80 bullion value) and the picture in Krause measures just under 21.5mm, a teensy bit larger than a U.S. nickle. The 2006 Krause says $90 VF, $100 XF and $185 Unc. What I don't understand, is that if these two coins were never released into circulation, how can there be VF and XF examples?
Wise guy! Thanks a bunch for the info...keep me in mind if y'all stumble across any of these. A PM with a heads up would be greatly appreciated.
Yep, Doug...I did. I'm keeping an eye on those but would probably be MOST interested in scaring up a 20 Zlotych. Sorry, I should have been more clear
Well the 20 z is a pattern only I believe - don't think that's gonna be easy to find. The 10 z was struck as a pattern and as a circulation coin - that's why it is easier. I have seen a few - but not many.
