As many no doubt know by know, the Tyler $1 Mint Rolls have sold out at the mint. So . . . what will the price on eBay do? As far as I can tell, the last recent sale -- which occurred before news of the "Sold Out" was: 2009 Tyler Dollar Roll Set from Mint Boxed P & D Unopen - which sold for $99 + S&H The first sale which mentions "Sold Out": 2009-P John Tyler Presidential $1 Coin Mint Roll JK2 - This sold just an hour later, in a "Buy It Now" for $169 (!!) In the current listings, I now see a bunch of Buy It Nows, ranging from $159 to $189, and a number of auctions that don't come due for a couple of days. And some stores selling them for $89 to $100 (with no indication/acknowledgment that it's sold out. Yet.)
It's all about the Mint wrapper. That said, I don't understand why the Harrisons, and now possibly the Tylers, are selling at these high prices. Can someone here explain. It just seems irrational.
Well . . . people panic when they see the words "SOLD OUT" And also they are impatient. As an example: how many collectors knew they would see 2009 Log Cabins in change, but had to purchase a couple, or a roll, because it was just too hard to go one month after month without having one in their hand. That's part of it. But . . . the phenomenon (particularly vis-a-vis the Harrisons) is not terribly rational.
That isn't it at all... It is because these mint wrapped rolls, have a limit, as to the bank wrapped rolls, nobody knows, how many of those there are! We know how many are in the mints inventory, or WERE, once they release the numbers The P and D's are sold out, and these coins are no different, except they have a LOWER POPULATION, not a LOWER MINTAGE, it is just like the ER and FS bull crap labels from NGC and PCGS
Nope, just go down to your bank and get as many unc rolls as you want. The mint wrapper is all that people are paying for (pretty weird huh?)
Well . . . the very first results of auctions are in: Just a few minutes ago a 2009-P mint roll sold for $77.25 . . . not bad. (I'm estimating that hiss net profit on the $35.95 investment is approx $29) But I really gotta love the name of the seller -- it's "morefunthanabarrelofwheatpennies". Really! Three minutes later, same seller sold his 2009-D roll for $85.25 Unless a flood come on the market soon, I suspect prices will rise in the short time as the losers of these auctions get a bit panicky and start upping their bids . . . . but, just guessing.
harrison, tyler, polk and taylor mint roll P & D mint mark might have the same 30,000 maximum mintage. the prices for all these four will go down drastically.
