Just got through. It took about 25 minutes of hitting "place order" for it finally to go through....

:smile Hehe. I've calmed down now.

I might just get the silver set instead. The US Mint really needs to get their hands around this stuff though.

And yes, Tmoney, my 15 year old will LOVE this gift. He has a 2008 proof set from Grandpa before he passed, and really got into coins with him (shame on me for not getting him into it). Now, I'm continuing the tradition as he wants one for each year. Makes me feel good just to think about his face on Christmas morning (its hard to get a 15 year old excited about anything, lol).

Maybe buy a bunch of proof sets, give him this years, and the one from his birth year :)

I like the birth year idea.

I'd do the 09, birth year, and maybe a silver proof set, maybe the last year of the franklin, 1964...
I'd even appreciate all those.. :)
You could also get him a ring, or necklace if he is into jewelry. My uncles girlfriend wares a british crown that her father had given her (She is in her 60's now)
I think whatever you get him, as long as it is numismatic, he'll love it! :D

I've bought silver proof sets for each of the grandkids birthyear. Of course they're too young too care yet, but maybe one of them will take a liking towards coin collecting like grandpa. Then maybe I'll have a roll searching partner.
I tried to get all of my 8 kids involved with coin collecting, but boy, as soon as that ice cream truck music hit the neighborhood, out popped the nickels, dimes and quarters from their whitman books. lol. It was funny and sad all at the same time.
My middle son stuck with it though. He's 25 and a lincoln cent variety searcher/collector.

WTG on getting the sets ordered, Bob! I am going to wait a week or so and let things calm down just a touch on the Mint's website.

Ironically, the set that Grandpa left him is the best of the Statehood Quarter era Clad Proof Sets as far as current value.

And yes!!! getting teens interested in something these days is an accomplishment!!!

Really yes, I do agree. Unless you are planing to be flip flopper like me, then all year you have to buy.

1-800-872-6488, screw the website. Call the number and be done with it. I always get the proof and unc sets and hope to find something good in my change.

I am not angry, just state things plainly at times. Your post says this:

there's two ways of taking my wise man comment. One, that you want to learn from others experiences, and mistakes. In this context it says that you are the wise man. Or, two, that is is generally the wise man that learns from other people's mistakes.

hence to me the price of knowledge is usually mistakes.

You can take that any way that you want, but I mean what I say and I say what I mean.

If what you meant by speculate is to talk about the possibilities, then you were mistaken about the context of my post. Either way, I am not angry and have nothing to apologize for.

I got my five sets tonight. It think that it will sell out in about 1-1/2 months. Why is everyone trying to buy it at 12:01?

my question exactly... why does everyone need to have them ordered within the first day or so when they will be on sale for at least a month.
