    or someone tried to sand it down. if I had it in hand I could give U a better answer!

    Looks like a grease filled die.

    Grease strike. You'll note a faint incuse "ghost" of Lincoln's bust within the larger grease-struck area. This is where the grease flowed toward the area of lowest effective striking pressure.
