I work the register at the restaurant I work at and I always look at my coins, even with the strange looks I get. Tonight I made my first significant score. I found a wheatie in a new roll of cents, and flipped it over to find it was a 1949 S. Now this may seem a stupid question, but as I'm not too knowledgeable about pennies, is the "s" supposed to be up this close to the date? (pics below) Also tonight I found a roll containing 1968-1975 cents in what I will call close to uncirculated condition. Yesterday I found a blank penny planchet. Thanks

Until 1990, mintmarks were applied by hand, and wandered all over the area below the date. If it doesn't intrude into the date, touches Abe's coat, or the rim, there is very little if any premium. Same for a very low punch. Jim
