Hello, here is my situation. I need to get the years 1992-1998 for my washington dansco set to complete my collection. I need to get the p & d uncirculated coins as well as the proof and silver proofs for each year. Here is my problem, I can't find the coins for decent prices on ebay (like auctions are asking for 2 to 3 times the red book costs if I buy by each coin or by p & d for example). Here is an example . The redbook says that the p should cost $1 and the d should cost $1. However it is $5 for both plus another $2.50 for s&h. More than 3 times the book cost. Does anybody know where I can get these coins for a reasonable price (even red book price would be fine)? Thanks for all suggestions/advice/help. I really want to finish this set!

Although my nearest coin dealer is in a city 40 miles away, I deal with them whenever I need coins such as you describe. They are honest, the coins inexpensive, and there is no shipping and handling fee.

So, I would suggest you find a coin dealer, if one is nearby.

That is one reason you should NEVER trust the Red Book...by this time the prices are out dated...look at what past auctions have sold for and that will be the true price.

    Hi Ryan

You couild search rolls for good examples of the Business strike coins, the proofs and the silver proofs will cost you some .or stick around for awhile let folks get to know you and maybe there are some trade or buy deals to be had here.

Rolls are hard to find but sell for only about $30 each or less. Arlan Kramer runs ads in the back of the coin papers and supplies good quality. The '92 to '94 issues are probably best found in the mint sets. These might cost a little more but the quality is excellent. If you can use or sell the other coins in the sets the quarters will actually be cheaper. Try to pick the best set out of seven or eight if you can. You'll probably have to bite the bullet on the proofs. The sets these are in still have substantial premiums so this means the coins will have to sell for more. There are numerous dealers who sell this material and you should be able to google it.

The BU coins exist in much smaller numbers than most people think so you can run into supply problems. The current price probably is about right for the current demand but the demand is increasing rapidly and supply is not well distributed. $1 each is definitely about as low as you'll find these and this could require some looking. You might try to get them all in as few places as possible to avoid the shipping charges.

Gems of some of these are pretty tough and can be breath taking with satiny smooth surfaces.

    Good luck.

Just be glad you aren't trying to fill '82 & '83. The last unopened bank roll of 1983 P quarters I saw on ebay sold for $430+ YIKES!

These are retailing for $1,500 now. There are dealers paying over $1,000.

If you can find a nice roll with nice choice coins it might go for $4,000 and you can name your price on gems. There is a lot of variability in quality in these rolls and generally they are uniformly bad.

Gems are exceedingly tough and were even before people started looking for them.

Are you happy with the deal??

If you are then I would say you got a good deal....the time you can make a bad deal is when you buy something you don't like and don't want...oh...there are times when you might pay a little more but if you need them for a set and are willing to pay the price then I think you did ok!

Okay, so how does the coin quality look in the coins in your guys' "professional" opinions.

You can't really tell based on those pics - you'll have to wait until you get the coins in hand. As for price - you might have been able to save $20 buying them individually - or you could have paid $20 more. There's no way to say really as the price would depend on the condition of each individual coin.
