Does This Coin Look Cleaned? http://cgi.ebay.com/Very-Nice-1856-...240:1318|301:0|293:20|294:50#ebayphotohosting
Yes it does Looks cleaned... HARSHLY It has marks, you can see very clear, all scratches and marks shouldn't be that visible I don't think it was cleaned that recently, but I think it takes away from the coin, looking like that I'd pass, but good seller
yeah I kind of thought so from the horizontal lines on the reverse, but thanks now I know that means its cleaned for sure, shame that coin pre-cleaned would have been worth a decent amount. I hate seeing ruined coins..
They mention it may have taken a polishing. Just wish they had said it's obviously been cleaned and be done with it. A lot of patina was ripped off that coin at some point.
Seems lots of Vette's coins take little beatings So sad... I'll see this guy in the big refinery in the sky http://cgi.ebay.com/Very-Nice-1878-...QptZCoinsQ5fUSQ5fIndividualQQsalenotsupported
I would just becareful of this seller(actually on ebay any seller of raw coins) - not that he is a bad seller, but you have to look at the coins very carefully. Sometimes, and I not sure this is on purpose, he does not list what might be wrong with the coins. Still I believe I have bought a coin or two from him with no issues. My rule for ebay is good pictures or I do not even entertain the notion of bidding(raw or slabbed). Just my opinion.
Yes, and harshly so. Not only are the hairlines a dead giveaway, the coin has no "skin", and silver that circulated more than 150 years ago should have skin. Look at the skin on these coins as a comparison: See the "skin" compared to the eBay coin? All of the above IMO & hoping to help...Mike
p.s. this seller, while a good guy who I have bought from before (and he has a good return policy), does sell lots of problem coins -- go into his auctions with your eyes open, and remember with every bid you're gambling S&H two ways on how sure you are.
I too, have bought from this seller. It seems to me that many of his coins have been cleaned and just about all of them are at least one grade lower that he has you believe. For instance, he'll say that the coin is either VF to EF+. When usually it is VF- or just F. This is just my own opinion I developed from buying from him in the past. Now, when I see a coin with that RED velvet background, I just pass it by. Bruce
Yes, I never bought from this seller, but his coins look pretty scary. Is a titantium seller, but I say buy the coin, don't buy the seller's coin.
This is a very high volume seller, if someone is willing to spend a lot of time sorting wheat from chaff, some good buys are there to be had. I just don't have the time to spend.
