I decided I wanted to buy a Franklin half for my type set, one that looked really nice- so when an expert Franklin collector decided to sell his collection, I bought this one, not the most expensive, by far-- but with full luster and soft toning that changes as you rotate it in the light. There is a lot of pink/purple/blue iridescence on both sides that is only hinted at in my just adequate photos. Just for fun, try and guess the grade- this came from a very picky collector. (not FBL). Thanks! I'll post the grade tomorrow night..
MS65... I would say MS70, but there is a crack in the liberty bell JUST MESSING AROUND! But MS65 is my final answer, good coin, nice luster, and toning that is amazing!
With the coin in front of me, I really don't see the fingerprint- it must be the light position on my copy stand that brought it out. The fellow I bought this from has been through hundreds of mint sets and attended dozens of shows to build his collection. CAC (John Albanese) recently bought a set of Franklins from him to use for grading and determining which coins have FBL. As I said, this was not an expensive coin-- but I doubt I could have found one this nice on my own without spending a lot of time searching-- and I'm kind of lazy!
I shot two more photos, better lit, and tried to sharpen the focus a tad.I think it shows the color a bit better, and more detail:
Oh If you don't like the "green bean" I'll be more than glad to take it from you! LOL Nice coin, MS66 and CAC, very nice!
My mom always told me that green beans were good for me. Great coin and image. You caught the color and detail plus some of the luster all in one image. That's tough to do. Nice find.
I know very little about TPG's ..What does the grenn bean indicate on the holder Eddie in Memphis...........Thanks
thanks for all the comments, hope you enjoyed the coin. Now, I think I want a mid-50's Franklin in high grade Proof Cameo. That would be the bling in my 2 piece Frankie set.
The seller tells me that it was graded about 7 years ago. It was part of a large group of Franklins and Roosie dimes that had been stored in paper envelopes for many years, he said there were many nice toners in the group and was a "once in a lifetime" opportunity.
Thats good news. I was worried that little print might still be changing. After 7 years I would think it's stable. The CAC sticker tells me it belongs in a 66 holder.
No, what it really tells you is that the opinions of graders working at two different TPGs are the same. It's still someone else's opinion.
No? If PCGS and CAC agree I feel sure it belongs in that holder. Are you saying it should not be in a 66 holder?
