I dealer once showed me what he called a "Cherrypickers Guide" to help identify errors and such. He said a new one would be comming out soon. Where can I buy one.
The book he referred to is Cherrypicker's Guide 5th Edition by Bill Fivaz & JT Stanton. You can buy it at most coin shops, Amazon, eBay and many book stores.
The Cherrypicker Guide is in 2 volumes. The Vol. 1 up to half dimes is in the 5th edition, while the Vol.2 half dimes on, is still 4th edition. Jim
If anybody already has the 5th edition, Volume 1 I'd appreciate a PM as I'm looking to see if my 1857 Flying Eagle Snow 22 made it into this edition. When Rick Snow affirmed my coin as a 1857 Flying Eagle S 22, he said it would be attributed to me as finding a new variety. If it's not in this book it should be in the RED BOOK-A Guide Book of FLYING EAGLES and INDIAN HEAD CENTS. BY RICK SNOW, from Whitman Publishing. IF IT'S NOT IN THERE... IT'LL BE IN HIS FORTHCOMING BOOK. THE FLYING EAGLE & INDIAN HEAD CENT ATTRIBUTION GUIDE, 3rd Edition, Volume 1, 1856-1858. Published by Eagle Eye Rare Coins, Inc. Tuscon, AZ. 85728 Whenever that comes out. If you haven't figured it out by now...I'd like to see my name in print as having a coin variety attributed to me. That, my friends, would make my day. Bruce
They are handy books to have if you do a LOT of coin searching. I don't but I bought them anyway. They paid for themselves almost instantly. My 1858 FE turned out to be a 1858/7. That turned a $150 coin into a $1200 coin. Works for me!!! BTW, not all varieties are included. Generally they are the overlooked or more obvious varieties.
Bruce I don't know if your coin is in this edition but I do know that my 1982 DDR does appear with no mention of who discovered it. I wouldn't hold my breath about them giving you credit. Good luck Richard
I believe that the Cherrypickers Guide doesn't give the names of the finders of FE and IHC varieties but the Attribution Guides do. I have them. I'll just have to wait for the 3rd edition from Eagle Eye Coins, to see if my name appears. Bruce
