If you haven't mailed it yet - list it as copper wash/sintered planchet.

Well the 5 day means that you will get it back 5 days after they start to grade it...I would bet on the Monday....that way it will give them a few more days---

GDJMSP...I'm sorry I didn't think of the sintered planchet too...I wasn't thinking today.

It's the same thing - just another name for copper wash. Perhaps a little better known.

    Sintered error

I understand that the sintered error (of which yours appears to be-not copperwashed) is a phenomenon where copper grains adhere to the nickel cladded planchet during the annealing (heat treating) process.
Where these copper grains come from I do not know.
Ebay always has a wealth of information on errors if you were to look at enough auctions to educate yourself.
I've sold them for any where between $35 to over $100.
    Good Luck!!

    Hello.

I found out some more about what causes sintered planchets. It is caused by the wash. It happens when they change the type of planchets they are washing. When the planchets are a different metal than those previously being washed, the new planchets often pickup some of the metal from the previous planchets. Kind of like electro plating. Copper wash happens when white metal plancets follow copper planchets through the wash for instance. Just thought I would share this tid-bit as a end to this thread.

    Thanks

    James

    Nice coin

I love happy endings. It was fun to read this thread--kind of like a mini-soap opera.
