die crack

    heres some pictures of a penny i found today thats cracked about half way around penny both sides, is this a mint error

    I don't believe that is a die crack. It looks more like it was struck in grease or something similar to that. I have seen several Venezualan coins that look like that.

    the coin details look to clean to be struck through grease...can you post a pic of the whole coin?

    if it is a crack, im still not sure if it would be considered an error. alot of cracks and such are pretty common on cents. not really sure when it crosses the line to being collectible and worth a premium.

    even still ... nice find :)

    Looks more like a deteriorated die.

    I agree :) with the whole coin visable, it doesnt look like a crack. Die fatique, struck through grease is possible as well.

    Doesn't look like a die crack. I'm also thinking some kind of die deterioration.

    I was thinking it might have something to do with it being an early zincker... We all know how many problems they had with the plating.

    I agree, it is not a die crack but the result of grease.
