I beleive that I found a 1964-D DDO Washington Quarter. Has anyone else heard or seen of this type? Someone mentioned that it may be Strike-Doubling. I wish I had a better image to submit, my battery ran dead. Have a better day! John
Howdy John - Welcome to the Forum !! I thought it strike doubling too when I first looked at it. But when I looked closer I see what appears to be notching at the bottom of serifs on the R - N - T & G. Now I'm not an error guy so I will gladly defer to those with more knowledge on the subject - but based on what I've read notching at the corners of the serifs is one of the hallmarks of a doubled die. So maybe, just maybe - your coin is a doubled die error.
Hi John, Your 1964-D Quarter looks very similar to my 1964-D DDO #002 Quarter with medium doubling on "IN GOD WE TRUST" and minor doubling on "64" of the Date and is a true DDO Quarter! Now on the Reverse, you might find that your Quarter also has a doubled "D" Mintmark and some doubling on "QUARTER DOLLAR" which many do. The Reverse doubling is usually machine doubling but there are a few specimens with actual doubled die doubling. Good Luck...Frank
Metalman, The coin has not been authenticated as in a slab by a Grading Service! However, the gentleman that I got it from is an Error Coin Dealer and he had it verified by the PCI Reps that attend the local Coin Club Show in Knoxville. The doubling is only on LIBERTY in a light CCW spread on LIBERTY as serifs and with the equipment that I have, I doubt that I could get a good enough closeup pictures to even show the doubling. Frank
