    Start with this http://www.pcgs.com/cert/

You can enter the slab number and check the coin for sale against the PCGS database.

As to the plastic itself, you'll have to do some Forum searching to find the historical discussions here on Coin Talk

Here is what the PCGS database says about that slab number

    COIN INFORMATION
    Cert Verification #:9498896
    PCGS Coin #:86704
    Date, mintmark:1963
    Denomination:50C
    Variety:
    Minor Variety:
    Mint Error:
    Pedigree:
    Country:The United States of America
    Grade:pR67CA
    Mintage:3,075,645

Everything seems to match up. Now is the slab a fake?

oh okay, I really wish I didn't have to check. it just upsets me all the counterfeits there are from China its annoying and I am still new at this and I can imagine even for an expert it can be difficult

I gave a good link in this thread...

    http://www.cointalk.com/forum/t54340/

One of the links can help you determine a fake slab
The slab you showed is just an older version

It looks different because it's in one of the older holders. ;) Doesn't mean it's fake at all. :)

I have seen two generations of PCGS holders in counterfeit slabs, but nothing that early. I don't see any of the signs that that is a fake slab.
