I am happy to extend this thread to all vehicles...planes, trains and all other automobiles. I am a huge fan of the mini...and when I finally buy a car it will no doubt be a mini. So I picked this coin up celebrating the 50th anniversary of its release.
OOO, I envy you so much. I want one of those Mini coins so bad. I even started a thread on it a month or two ago but it didn't get much attention. I, too, am a Mini lover!
Probably the most famous depiction of an automobile on a coin is the 1928 Republic of China Kweichow Auto Dollar. Minted in silver by the Provincial government in Republic Year 17, with a 1 yuan denomination, it's claimed to be the first ever auto coin, with only 648 examples produced. (The Chinese counterfeiters have produced at least 10 times that many!)
