Picked this up for really cheap, I really could care less about what ANI graded it, because I know what I would grade it. See how you guys do!
It's got some pretty good rim dings on the observe the reverse look good almost looks like FS. I'll give it FS but would need a close up but with that picture FS. Very nice coin I guess MS-64
I say they said MS67, FS... Nice coin, and who cares what they graded it, just crack it outta that slab! LOL
I don't even know who ANI is, but I guess they graded it correctly: MS66. The coin has some grade limiting marks that prevent the MS67 grade, but overall it is still a nice clean premium gem.
From what I have seen of ANI, I would be surprised if they graded it less than 68 FS. As for the coin itself, 66 looks about right.
Were I grading it I'd say 64. There are a few hits on the obv, hair and collar are the worst, rest are minor. But the hit in the center of the portico on the rev is the limiting factor IMO. As for what they said - who knows ?
OK, I just put in vote as to what ANI graded it and it was 67. It's not and it's not full steps (I know how hard it can be to get the pics of that). I'm hanging with Doug on this one. MS64. Too much chatter on the obverse and the big nick near Jefferson's brow. Reverse pretty clean but not full steps. I do like the color. It's original. Just too darn much chatter going on.
This coin is closer to a 67 than a 64 IMO. There are some grade limiting marks, but they limit the coin from getting a 67. I don't see any mark that would keep the coin from an MS66.
Yeah, thats what I was trying to say, I graded it at a MS66 when I bought it from the dealer. He agreed and we settled on the price.
Those tiny "chatter" marks you are seeing, (I think is what you are seeing) are tiny cracks in the slab.
