    This thread went much better than I expected, I knew we would get to see some nice coins from all over the world and I also expected a confrontation with Victorianism. I figured it a win/win. People could come to see the pictures or argue a cause to the wee hours of the night ;)
    If nothing else it would provide entertainment.

    I have a collection that has taken me awhile to assemble because of the low mintage's.

    EDITED - Per my earlier ruling - If we wouldn't allow such detail to be shown in a photo of a "real-live" person, I see no need to show the same detail on such tokens/coins. If anyone would like to take this up with the Admin Team feel free to PM members: Peter T Davis, and GDJMSP

    I hope it's not too offensive, after all they are from national mints.:bow:

    I haven't seen a single person give a single whit of positive feedback to Speedy for this. So, I guess I'll jump to the unpopular side and give him the positive feedback.

    Look -- it's not our forum, and, as speedy said, "1950's family friendly" is the standard, and it was the standard before most of us even heard of CT.

    So, now we're making jokes about nipples and no bras and posting pictures of women on coins revealing stuff that I'd bed no married man here would be happy if his wife, or daughter, were doing it.

    We can talk about "the naturalness of the human body" or "it's art" or "it's national coinage" or "Victorianism" all we want, but -- let's grow up ;) -- we know what we're talking about here. (How come there aren't any coins depicting naked men? And I don't mean from the waist up. And I'm guessing that any argument talking about the objectification of women will get lost here.). And I'm no prude. I chuckled at some of the comments -- but that doesn't mean it was right.

    (And, wow, somebody here actually used "well the Cuban government does it" as a justification?!? I never thought I'd see _that_ here!! Since when do we use Castro's standards as a basis for action?)

    But the bottom line is this: we all know what the simple rules of the forum are. Why are we now suddenly complaining because the moderators are enforcing them?

    Okay, I will take the bait. I stated my position quite clearly in my previous posts, but will reiterate them for you again. A legal tender coin, IMO, should not be banned on a coin chat room website. This does not mean that the owners/operators of the site can't run the site the way they see fit. However, when you enter the business of censorship, you quickly find yourself in a quagmire of where to draw the line. Coins are either artists renditions or political statements. Both of these areas should never be censored unless doing so places the owner/operator of the site in a position where they may be exposed to financial liability for allowing the post. All I was asking was that if that was the case, the reason be explained to the members of the site.

    Asking that the website be a family site similar to that of a "50's TV show" is perfectly fine. And when it comes to the use of profanity, abusive language, or posting of inappropriate photographs, I completely agree that the moderators should edit posts in order to promote a fun friendly atmosphere. However, there is nothing inherently offensive about a coin that is legal tender of this country or any other.

    As far as objectifying women, you couldn't be more wrong. Have you ever set foot in an art museum in your life? There are more statues of naked men than there are visitors of the museum. The reason you don't see men on coins (at least US coins) is that the female figure is used to represent Liberty. There is absolutely nothing sexual about the women on US coinage. The images are not meant to be pornographic or in anyway sexually arousing. Anyone who thinks they are needs to seek immediate psychiatric help.

    Lastly, you find it ludicrous that someone used Castro's standards for propriety. Think of it this way. The United States culture is so sexually repressed that the communist regime in Cuba headed by Fidel Castro is more progressive. I doubt you will ever find a European who will post in this thread. They are all too busy rolling on the floor in laughter at the stupid Americans who are afraid that an artists rendering of the naked human female form will corrupt the morals of their youth. Give me a break!

    I didn't say it was offensive. But I think, say, the Cuban example is ridiculous, and not art at all.

    I wasn't talking about art museums -- I was mostly talking about this thread, and many of the coins that were posted on it and/or society in general. Funny thing how women's magazines covers are usually of beautiful women, and men's magazine covers are usually of beautiful women, too. Can you explain the popularity of the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue? Is it "art"? Is it about sports? or swimsuits? hardly. Can you think or a reason why billions are spent on women's elective plastic surgery? Or that so many ads on TV are stocked full of beautiful women? Can you explain high-heels? or Hooters?

    No -- just ironic. Reading the few political posts around here, I wouldn't have guessed that anyone would praise a policy coming from Castro, that's all.

    Just because it's on a coin doesn't make it art. The Standing Liberty Quarter might be art, but the Cuban example was, more or less, a cartoonish figure. Do you know how most 13 year old girls in mixed company react when 13 year old boys are ogling pictures like that Cuban coin? (I do, because I have a just-turned 14 year old daughter)

    ============

    I hope nobody is taking offense to what I am writing. As noted earlier, one can't capture tone in the written word. My tone, above, is more of "detached bemusement". I felt bad for Speedy for enforcing the known rules, and wanted to offer some support.

    Why isn't it art, because you don't like it?

    These things have nothing to do with coins. I didn't say that the objectification of women doesn't exist, just not on legal tender coinage.

    Are you saying the Fidel Castro is so evil that he is incapable of making a policy or decision that is actually in the best interest of his country?

    If it is not art, what is it? As far as the children, if we as adults didn't make a big deal out of it, neither would they.

    ============

    I don't take offense to your opinions, but I do think you are completely, 100%, across the board, totally wrong as is Speedy and the policy itself.

    There are, you just didn't look. Italy , Philippines, Tongo

    I think it unfair to censor ART in the form of coins. A great deal of time , effort and censorship already went into getting the coin minted. To have a forum then declare them obscene is a big step toward suppression of free speech. There was nothing dirty or vulgar about my collection and it took me decades to collect. NOW I can't show it. You really don't want forum members to stay around much if you censor them and their coins.

    Anybody wanting to view my collection please contact me at

    dan@cflcoins.com

    Or a question for speedy. Are you forbidding me from posting my web site with my collections, because this was one of my collections??

    Am I forbidden to post pictures of my Mexican Onzas for sale??? My 91 Mule is as Bare breasted as any!

    OK Guy's enough is enough here, Speedy made a call on the coin in question and he told you all quite clearly if you disagree with his decision you can contact Peter or Doug and ask them for final judgment. Now why dont you please do so?
    If you keep arguing over it I will shut the thread simple as that.
