Howdy peeps, I ran across an interesting token that I knew nothing about so I researched it and found out what it was and figured it would be an excellent addition to my copper collection. Now, the big question is, do you know what that is? Do not post the answer in the thread! PM me with the answer!!!! I don't want you to answer in the thread, since that will give it away to those that don't know what it is, yet they should know, so PM me with your answer and I will post who all got it right. :thumb: This is a U.S. token that anyone who collects early U.S. coins should know so if you don't know what it is, see if you can figure it out. hya: Ribbit Ps: Here's a hint - Ruben should know what it is! Also, it has a medal turn and not a coin flip orientation. And it's the same size as a Lincoln Cent. Pps: When PM'ing me with the answer, please provide a complete answer, which means what is it and where is it from. Here's the list of who's got it right so far: NPCoin byrd740 PennyGuy Cherylkubucko the_man12 hontonai coinman0456 Speedy pennywise Good job guys & dolls! :thumb:
There's some interesting history surrounding this little token and I couldn't believe I had never read about it before. :goofer: Plus, it is right up my alley so it's a must have for my collection. I figured if I didn't know what it was, there's bound to be many more here that don't know but they should so this will be interesting to find out if anyone here does know what it is and the ones that don't know should be somewhat shocked when they find out the story behind it. :secret: I think come Sunday night, there will be a few members that will have this on their "to get" list. :high5: Ribbit
This thread has had 125 views and 6 peeps have gotten the answer correct so that averages out to 5% knew the answer or at least took the time to research it to find the answer. :thumb: I wonder what the number will be by tomorrow night? Ribbit Ps: This token, to the best of my knowledge, is not listed in the Red Book but considering it's unique history, I find that a little odd.
It could be a token made especially for a certain room of a big fancy hotel, room 1817, and the person that lives there is the most famous "lady of the evening" of that period and you have to purchase the token from her "manager". Who knows? Ribbit
Now we are up to 9 peeps with the right answer and still at a 5% ratio. So either 5% of us knew what this was or 5% either knew or took the time to look it up and educate themselves but either way, that 5% had to read about it at one time or another and that 5% won't pass it up at a flea market for $5 and maybe now, the other 95% won't pass it up for a good price. :thumb: Ribbit
I saw a website that had it for sale for $25 which is probably overpriced, but I still think it was a steal for you. WTG!
Actually, if it's in decent condition, $25 is a good price! :thumb: Plus, there's a lot of history surrounding these so they will eventually soar in price as they become better known. So get'em while the gettin's good. Ribbit
