    Marine coin limit upped
    From Numismatic News

An adjusted mintage limit of 600,000 has been set for the U.S. Marine Corps 230th Anniversary Silver Dollar Commemorative.

Originally, the maximum mintage was specified as 500,000 by Public Law 108-291, which authorized the coin.

However, Treasury Secretary John W. Snow decided to raise the limit after the Marine Corps Heritage Foundation inquired about increasing mintage levels.

The Mint will now strike up to 600,000 Marine Corps dollars if demand warrants.

The Mint cited Title 31 of the U.S. Code, Section 5112(m)(2)(B), “the Secretary of the Treasury can waive the mintage level for commemorative coins if independent, market-based research conducted by a designated recipient organization indicates the mintage level will not meet public demand,” according to the Mint.

Somehow, I don't think an increase of only 100,000 will meet the demand, but I'm with you on keeping the mintage low.

    Hello.

We all know the demand for this coin will be extremely high. It is the first coin of its kind and every Marine in the nation, like me, will want one. I would not be supprised if the mint sells out quickly. Another 100,000 is a shot in the bucket. That is my two cents anyway.

What's the price going to be? I seem to remember that they go on sale July 20th. Is that the first day you can call the mint and order them?

i don't mind them upping the mintage, lets remember the point of commemorative coins!

The proceeds fo the coins are supposed to go to a good cause, I think they should mint as many as will meet the demands of the public. The proceeds go to a good cause!

Wouldn't it be sad that a poor vet. marine can't get his marine coin because some speculators purchased them all up to turn a profit? ( like the 2001 buffalo commem )

    Hello.

It should be around $40. The press release says they start selling them on the 20th.

Hey guys.. I am all for supporting the cause..I am a Former Marine myself 0311 and also an advocate of value added limited edition coniage...after all the proof AGE Program is much more limited...and I for one am a person that always has to save up the $700.00 for the 1 OZ Prooff and by the time I get it..they are sold out! Wheres the public demand on these? Should it not be equal?
I stand by my conviction and sad to see the limit increased..
