My first Barr notes one is a Star (added pics) I was going through money a teller was selling to the vault today and found 2 1963B $1's one of them is a star. I was super excited about them and the condition that they are in for the age but didn't get a chance to look at them really till I just got home and then realized that they are Barr notes which I don't know much about but remember seeing that name on here. Anyways they are both Chicago notes. One is G 53320162* and the other is G 01845570 I. Any idea of the value or anything that I should look for on these? Thanks! By the way I stayed at work 2.5 hours late today but this made it worth it to me! Edited to add: Well after reading a little more about Barr notes look like it's not a biggie because they made so many of them. Is that right?
They are nice notes. I don't know much about paper currency, so I am of no help, but, I can tell you they look nice, and are worth keeping in my opinion
Thanks! I will definatly keep them. I just thought that maybe I had really found something and then now think that maybe I didn't. For $1 each though I can't lose can I?
I keep $1 stars regardless of year and condition. It only cost a buck. I guess that would be pricey for you though because you work in a bank LOL. These are definitely keepers though. :thumb:
Yes keeping all stars even just $1's would get pretty pricey. I would probably actually lose money working there. LOL
If you can get $1 notes from 63' for $1.. I say do it (Although I'd rather put my money into actual coins, and bullion, I say you will do alright)
The star note is still a very nice find. Hard to tell the exact condition, but it's probably worth about $5.
Nice find! I love finding barr notes. True, so many folks saved them thinking they would be worth money, that they are common enough today... but its still exciting finding a note so old in circulation
I can not tell exacally how good they are but the book on Barr notes are $5 -$6 on non star and $18 - 20 on Stars in CU cond....excuse me for stepping in, I am new here but have over 100 Barr notes, I really like them...Hello to everyone...hope to get to know more of you....Kim
OFF TOPIC welcome to the forum Kim... You should stop by the 'introduction' board and post a hello. not everyone reads the currency threads ... even though they should
Hey Kim! Are you a female or male Kim? I know both! If you are female then I welcome some more estrogen to the board. If not then I still welcome you. How far is Gordon Nebraska from Omaha? I will be going there next month for my sons baseball tournament.
Hey Guys, thank you for the welcome, and sorry Kdkenn, I am a 54 year old male... and as for as the distance from Omaha, we are about 7 - 8 hours west. and I will get posted on the others board, I just cought this last nite and got in and set up...thanks guys ....have a good one Kim
Well you never can be sure. So many names go both ways. I was hoping I could quiz you on what to do while I was there. Have you been or know anything about the area?
I've never been there, but if I were going I'd probably try to visit this place... http://www.durhammuseum.org/default.aspx they have this event going from now until Labor Day http://www.durhammuseum.org/experience/exhibits/temporary/exhibit-details.aspx?ID=62 ...and this regular exhibit seems interesting as well... http://www.durhammuseum.org/learn/collections/byron-reed.aspx Almost makes me want to figure a way to get up there!!!
Thanks for finding that for me! It really looks neat. That counterfeit detection seminar would be very helpful working in a bank too. And the coin exhibit looks really neat as well. I'm gonna have to try to find a way to work a trip to that museum in my trip.
