well i got my sets yesterday and I was looking through them and maybe 1 of the buffs might be cameo but its hard to tell. How come they dont protect the medal in the sets? it looks very easy to damage to me. Though i will credit the mint for a very good job on my sets. One more question. Would you guys wait to sell your sets(Like next year) or now?(to beat all the backordered sets)
You mean that all of the coins aren't CAMEO?? I would think that it would be hard to get a coin with out CAMEO...the way the dies are cleaned. If I were you...I would sell now...I don't see these thing being worth a lot by next year....maybe by the end of this year....but I've been worng before...but I think I'm alright on this ;--) Put you money on a nice 1921 Peace dollar.... Speedy
The reason I say a 1921 Peace dollar is because in the last 3-4 years they have done great....when I started collecting I saw them for under $50 easy....now I just got one that the CLEANED for a few dollars over $90...but its not for keeps! Speedy
howd u know where I was going? I think that im thinking that cameo is something different then what I think it is (hehe it makes sense)
Most of the coins in my set are cameo. I noticed the same thing (medal not protected) and was curious as to what was on the other side. Shop At Home actually pried one out of the holder and I was impressed as to how thick the medal was. I has a rough depiction of Jefferson on the back. I brought the set in to work to show people and a friend was showing it to his (female) coworker and told her "you can't touch the medal". She repled "yes I can" and pointed her finger at it and was attempting to touch it before I took it back. I bought two with the idea of trading one of them for the 2004 set but it looks like the price for the 2004 is a bit higher.
My intention was not to hurry and get the max. mumbr of sets I could just to hurry and turn around and make a quick buck. I got my usual 2 sets for my collection with no desire to sell them. If more people bought just what they needed for their collection then simple collectors might stand a better chance of getting such limited sets to add to their collection at retail and not have to pay the outrageous secondary prices.
I didn't...but I would suggest that you look into the coin yourself and not take what I have said...I don't want it to seem like I'm saying one coin will go up and the other one won't....but I think if you start to look into it I think you will see what I have. Speedy PS--as for CAMEO....here is a photo of a CAMEO coin...sometimes if you put the coins under a light it will help you see the CAMEO...it will also help to show you if there are any breaks in the CAMEO...as that might lower the grade.
I was curious so I took mine out of the holder if mine to take a quick peek? Do you think the 04 sets will be worth anything after this year or should I sell now?0
