1940-P Large "P" above Monticello

    Large P dosen't occur until 42-45. If you have a 40 with a lg P over the dome, it could be worth some bucks. 1940 mintage for P is about 176 and 1/2 million.

    Yeah, sorry Joshycfl, I would too. I didn't have the coin with me, just the photo of the obverse. My Large "P" is 1944. Thanks for the help.

    No clue on value. My Red Book is several years old, and I don't trust Red Book prices anyhow.

    Mintage of 1944P was 119,150,000, just a hair less than '45P (119,408,100) but much smaller than '43P, which topped 271-million in all varieties. 1943S, with 104,060,000, was far and away the largest branch mint product, and the only one to top a million.
