Large P dosen't occur until 42-45. If you have a 40 with a lg P over the dome, it could be worth some bucks. 1940 mintage for P is about 176 and 1/2 million.

No clue on value. My Red Book is several years old, and I don't trust Red Book prices anyhow. Mintage of 1944P was 119,150,000, just a hair less than '45P (119,408,100) but much smaller than '43P, which topped 271-million in all varieties. 1943S, with 104,060,000, was far and away the largest branch mint product, and the only one to top a million.
