Hello, I am brand new to collection and investing in coins so I apologize if this seems like a stupid question. I have been collecting the American Silver Eagle UCAM proofs. I recently purchased the 1993-P NGC PF70 UCAM graded Silver eagle on ebay. When the coin arrived I immediately noticed the reverse is not centered. I have no method of measuring the angle but it appears to be rotated about 8-15 degrees. Basically, I have spent about 5-10 hours online looking for information about proof coin errors, but could not find anything. I have noticed NGC graded coins being rated as "error coins" I took the coin into a dealer and he said that anything under 15% does not qualify as an "error" coin. However, I have seen coins on e-bay considered "errors" with only 5 degree rotations. Any suggestions on how to proceed?
Welcome to cointalk. The 15% guy is correct. There is no one on ebay policing unscrupulous listings, so folks are free to say whatever they want. It is still an error, but there is no premium until 15% rotation usually. I would keep it as errors on silver eagles don't occur often. Maybe a pic with the SilverEagle on edge in front of a mirror would help us to determine rotation.
Noost is correct but finding any type of error on a proof is not very common. i would certainly keep it
