I just want to get some opinions on this coin and the seller. It says you grade, what you'd you put it at. I'll hold my thoughts till later. http://cgi.ebay.com/1923-D-PEACE-DO...QptZCoinsQ5fUSQ5fIndividualQQsalenotsupported
MS64 or 65.... Although one question, I'd ask the seller Between the L and the I in liberty, is that a hair, a scratch, or is it a VAM???
dollars for dounuts its a die crack. The 22-s and 23-d's had a lot of die cracks in this area. But its a fair question to ask the seller.
This is a nice looking coin. For the record all Peace and Morgans are VAMs. Now if this is a coin with a good attribute coin is another story. I think this is at least a MS-63-64 which would be priced correctly if it is the coin shown. It is very hard to tell from these photos but it may be an EDS 1H based upon the die crack seen on the Obverse @ the base of the L, this just a wild guess though with these photos. I any case this coin would not command a VAM Premium unless it suites your eye and your collection. Good luck.
no I'm not after the Vam. I like the coin, it has good color, luster and strike. I am a little worried that on the obverse around the L and Y where the flash hits the plastic thier could be some hairlines. Also on the jaw and neck I see two hits, I think, but they could be on the plastic. I've requested better pics. I'm thinking its a solid 63, but can't give it a 64 yet. I'd need the coin in hand. I think he has it priced right, I'll wait pics and maybe give an offer. What's current market on a 63, both bid and ask?
Given this Ebay seller and other items he has shown they know this coin is not an MS64 or they would be asking much more. Regardless of your hopes I would not purchase this coin if you are wanting a MS64 .. If these are scratches and not Die Breaks then the $125 cost is excessive. Ask the seller if these are Scratches or Die Breaks, he does enough business with coins to answer this truthfully. If he answers as he does not know then I would pass on this coin. There are plenty like this one at this price, this is a common Peace Dollar.
Nice strike, but looks like an AU 63 to me. I'd like to buy it in an AU slab, and sell it in a 63 slab. I suspect if sent to the TPGs it would come back AU.
I think I would need a much better photo before I go anywhere near that coin. No way I can tell if that is AU or MS. And if it is MS, I cant tell whether MS62 or MS63. In addition, there is a decent chance that it was dipped with that blazing silver appearance.
Well if this coin, is a coin he wants, than maybe he should make an offer If he has any others, that he knows are high grade 63's or 64's, he might want to compare, or take it to a dealer to see what he thinks Now, I don't know if I would buy this coin, but if Tater thinks the price is right, and he likes the coin, he can pick up the dead skunk...
Or he could just bid on this very lustrous blast white 1923-D Peace Dollar ICG MS63 on Heritage. My guess is that it doesn't break $100 and the photos are 100x better. http://coins.ha.com/common/view_item.php?Sale_No=29054&Lot_No=26788#photo Without the smell.
The strike on the reverse is very nice from the pic, but the obverse is kinda funny around the head of the Liberty. Again the pic is not large enough to judge. Yes there are some scratches on the obverse cheek and neck. Can't tell much on the hair. It look like a nice slider, but then again Peace do have issues on weak strike. It can be MS 62-63 .
For what I can see of the Heritage 1923D Coin it is a much better photo. It also does a fine job displaying luster once you get by all the bag marks. In my opinion this is a coin typically seen in an ICG Holder .. (IMHO usually over graded) (Grade the Coin not the Holder) I think it will bring less or @ the $100 plus the 15% buyers fee, shipping and handling. This coin has zero eye appeal to me. One thing can be said for this coin there is little doubt it is UNC with baggy Luster and a die crack on the Obverse running from the rim to the top of the 1 to the Neck. (Very Typical for 1922 and 1923 Peace Dollars) Really not a good comparision piece .. I think each would have to stand on their own merits.
1923 Peace dollar haha, lehigh. Why so graphic?:mouth: The first clue for me is the " you grade" statement. hmmmm
