You won't hear me complaining about their pictures. They're miles ahead of most ebay auctions, with the ability to zoom in incredibly close on everything. I've never purchased from them but I am impressed with them.
tmoney - you're a young buck, full of energy and ready to plop down your cash to close the deal. Having that desire is great, but I really hope you take your time and be cautious. Caution will eliminate some of the inevitable mistakes of youth (and for us old guys who think they know something). I like to acknowledge my limitations and prefer not to jump in if I don't really know what I'm doing. It's also great to get a few opinions on a coin before you buy. So, as Mike stated, don't always trust what you see. I bought this from Heritage with a live floor bid after seeing it in hand before the auction. Now, you may not like the heavy toning of this coin, but I want to underscore how, in this case, the pics did not match the coin in hand. Here's what folks saw on the internet: And here is what I saw in hand (pretty close): Now, regardless of whether you still think the coin is ugly, there is no doubt that Heritage's pics were not accurate. I'm afraid that you may find the reverse with BIN transactions.......that is the coin isn't as nice as in the pictures. So, what's the point? Trusting a picture may lead to big disappointment. You are always better off seeing the coin in hand before spending your money. My advice is to save your money and go to a few shows, walk the bourse, go to the lot viewing sessions prior to the auctions and do this before you lay down your hard earned cash. Minimally, if you must buy on-line, be sure you understand and have a return privledge. Be sure you know the cost of a return and be sure your willing to pay the freight if you're unhappy.
The coin you bought is absolutely amazing! Now, most of my local coin shops, are just overpriced.... Coin shows, I might go to the one this summer in san antonio! That should be fun Now, any of the coins, that I buy, I make sure they have return privileges on them...Don't wanna get burned I think I'm one of the cautious buyers on the net, and just because I buy on ebay, that sets of some red flags in people's minds, that I'm not a safe buyer... To all people reading, when you are safe, and cautious, there is nothing wrong with ebay, and that is final...(Except for copies and replicas, those suck! lol) Thanks for your advice my friend
Oh you should definitely go to a show! Awesome experience and you can get better deals than on the internet or at a shop. I agree with you about eBay as well.
U know what, I'll check out that show...Should be fun, and I'll bring some cash... :hammer: :hammer: :hammer:
Here's my take. As a small fish in the big Heritage pond, I have received the most awesome customer service, always top notch. Heritage bent over backwards once for me, overnighting a package I "MUST HAVE" before the coin show Friday a while back, my deal depended on it...they came thru with flying colors On the pics on the website, I would advise you do the same as you do with any website, that is proceed with caution. Remember folks, many times, you have friends attending these auctions, and I bet ya for the price of a round of beers or a dinner, they would be glad to take a look for you, to aid you in interpeting the pic. If this prescreening becomes regular, a percentage fee should be involved, it will not be high and will aid you in your bid amounts. Have you friends tell you if it is an A coin, a B coin, or a C coin....FOR THE GRADE...always try to do this, it will save you money and heartache in the future. MY final statement is that Heritage is top notch, safe, and a go company when your looking for that something special that you cannot locate elsewhere, keep an eye, it just might pop up on Heritage one day. Dont trust internet pics, that goes for Herirtage as it would anybody.....
Okay, I will chime in. Heritage is by far the best place to acquire rare coins at auction. Anything you want will eventually show up in one of their auctions. There catalogs and website features are the best in the business. Despite the criticisms, their photos are phenomenal given the volume of coins they must photograph each week. Just recently, that have even become quite good a photographing toned coins, albeit only the lots with the oversized photos. I have only one major criticism with Heritage and that is their shipping practices. I don't mind waiting a few weeks for the coin as I know that they have thousands of lots to handle, but I hate the fact that they will just shove thousands of dollars worth of rare coins in your mailbox for anyone to steal. If they started shipping with signature confirmations over $500, I would be complaint free. I can't even complain about their consignment directors. They assign one to your account and he/she calls once per year. They call to see if you have any coins to consign and when you say no, they very politely thank you and move on. No pressure or sales tactics, they just accept your answer to their simple question. Heritage is at the pinnacle of the rare coin auction business.
Thanks, Mike......nah, I like it alot, but I respect those who don't like heavy toning. It's not for everybody!
A lot of the darker toning, makes the coin look ugly.. Although yours has a very dark, blackish rainbow, that I LOVE!
Heritage Lehigh, I f you the buyer wishes to have your purchase shipped , for a signature only, you simply need to contact an account rep and or the shipping dept and they will either only ship USPS/signature required or by FEDEX/signature required. They will note that on the account for you. There may be a nominal shipping charge increase, depending on the shipments value.
Yes I have bought from HA.com before and will again. In fact I'm placing a bid on a coin tonight at 10:01, thats when it comes up....:bow: They are much better now than a few years back. Better pics and quicker shipping. I had no problems, just remember the 15% and figure it in. JMO
I give Heritage an enthusiastic two thumbs up ! I've bought, sold, and consigned with Heritage for a while now. I've always been very pleased. Very courteous, very professional, very helpful. Most of my best coins came from there, and I've done well when I sold them.
