Just saw a really good show on Abraham Lincoln on the National Geographic channel (channel 276 on Directv). If you don't have a Lincoln Silver Dollar now I bet you will want one after seeing that show. Replays at midnight central time. Thought I would pass it on since Lincoln is so prominent in the hobby this year.
IMO, the Lincoln Silver Dollar, is one of the ugliest coins I've ever seen in my life... It makes the SBA coin, look like a Playmate... I liked last year's commemorative
Well I never heard anyone look at a picture of Lincoln and say "now that's one good looking man". I do think they did a good job on the silver dollar though and judging by the quick sell out most people agree. To each their own.
Well said, F-10. Not a good-looking man... but when they read up on him, they say "That was a man of integrity and character." Surely he did the best he could with what he had. Awesome, awesome man. Thanks for the thread. I'll try to catch the show. In the meantime, I read "Team of Rivals". Amazing book; highly recommended. Now I've moved on to a book about his relationship with Steven Douglas. This should be interesting !
Thanks..I just read the synopsis on "Team of Rivals" Looks like something I would be interesting in reading. Lincoln was indeed an amazing man. Did you make it to the Fort Worth show over the weekend?
Yes, I know, many people find this coin so beautiful, although I think both the Braille and the Lincoln silver dollars, are very ugly.. I want to know what they mint is doing next year for their commemoratives
I read a lot about Lincoln. One of the best is the recent Michael Burlingame biography, Lincoln: A Life. A TON of neat personal accounts and stories in there.
There has been a few good shows on about Lincoln and the assasination. I don't know what I would do withe out the History/Discovery channel group. :thumb:
Couldn't agree more. What most impressed me was how well he managed his Cabinet, in spite of the conflicts he had with the individuals. One of the best Lincoln books!
Wow..Those are nice. Do you know if you can still get those from the Post Office? I think I just found them. Thanks for posting http://shop.usps.com/webapp/wcs/sto...d=21902&productId=43451&langId=-1&WT.ac=43451
It nice ordering them as you don't have to waste time waiting in line and you can order what you would rather have other than the common ones everyone sees in their letters they get. http://shop.usps.com/webapp/wcs/sto...toreId=10001&catalogId=10152&categoryId=11832 They ship for $1.00 handling, so order what you need. I ordered 100 Stamps. Very nice.
Thanks very much for posting them. Only other stamps I every collected were from the 1980 winter olympics in Lake Placid. I will be glad to add those to my colleciton.
I do believe it was as well. (I would check if my daughter hadn't made off with my Oxford Dictionary of Quotations. Gotta ask her about that!)
Yeah it is..I was just thinking of that line from the movie when Green mentioned it. Classic none the less.
