So, it's been a big couple weeks for me purchase wise. I've been moving coins around a lot, selling on ebay, and somewhat consolidating my collection to be more focused, especially with my type set.

All that to say, it's been a while since I've added anything to my VF+ lincoln cent collection. I'm quite pleased with this coin, and is a solid VF in my book, with a small carbon spot on the reverse. What do you guys think?

Look at my Thread I just started on Rose Thorns and oil. I bought a 1912 S and cleaned it up nice. I think yours would look outstanding with such treatment. That's a good price you paid for your coin. I love 1912 S's

Not a bad little 12-s there.

Nice coin! Clear separation between the cheek and jaw, wheat lines all there, just mild rub. The carbon spot doesn't bother me, I actually like some carbon on older wheats because it often demonstrates originality of the surfaces.

    VF25-30 would be about right
A nice coin for the money..
I just sold two S minted wheaties, and I'm not too happy about the price, but hey, what can I do?
    1910 S EF--$26.99
    1914 S EF-- $35.99

You got a good deal.. Nice pickup, very, very nice coin

    What do you guys think?

I think it's a cool Lincoln that -- I'm sorry to say -- looks recolored to my eyes.

    Respectfully....Mike

  12. It COULD be recolored.

I would hope that it's just lighting. It has that nice chocolate look to it, but the reverse looks a little grey-ish.

Nice chocolate = dellers darkener (or similar product) more often than not.

Copper rarely tones chocolate. To wit, how many chocolate wheaties have you found in pocket change?

I could be full of hot air with respect to your coin, as the color of circulated copper is always difficult to capture and/or there could be a color cast issue.

    Respectfully...Mike

p.s. that's not to say recolored copper is a bad thing -- I own more than a few recolored copper pieces -- but, pardon the cliche, it is what it is.

Interesting point. I think that puts things in perspective. Dellars, undiluted can look nice if done right.

If you are being serious, please post them and compare their color to the coin posted above. I think you will find they look quite different.

Sorry- I meant to say Dellars diluted can look nice and sort of natural

to continue on with the thread as an educational venue and to not bang the op for his nice coin, i have to agree with leadfoot.

lets look at the ovberse, a nice vf-25ish abe , perhaps even a 30. nice color, decent enought strike, just an average coin.

    reverse. we have 2 issues.

color and removed stuff. to the left of the left wheat in the 9k position, and the t in cent.....we have 2 areas with cleaning evident and something was removed. the reverse has lost it's natural look to it and has been doctored.

on a circ coin like this , it is not the end of the world, i have seen much worse. but , like i started this, if these coins and threads, regardless of the author, are to be educational, we must shoot from the hip and let her fly.

everybody would benifit if you took a roll of generic wheats and played with them, cleaned them, everything you can think of. you will see this stuff much easier.

I don't mean to boast, but my color/hue vision is unusually good. :eek:hya:

Acuity? Not so good due to astigmatism. :headbang: Memory, not so good due to the 90's. :headbang: Brain, not what it once was. :headbang: But I have a very good eye for color/hue.

Here's a cool test to check your own vision:
