I was looking thru some European web sites and found this coin. The obverse represents the traditional Sower or Walking Liberty created by Oscar Roty in 1898 and which has since become a timeless emblem of French currency. This design was also the inspiration for several U.S. coins. Thanks RB

    Nice pics.
I remember we had a poll about Euro coins in another forum a few year ago and France won the poll for best designed Euro coins.

Stunning execution. The rest of the world should learn from countries like France (and a handful of others) how to design and execute these.

    Very nice coin too Daboz!

Don't know about "Walking Liberty", but Roty's Sower or Semeuse can indeed be found on many French coins, including contemporary ones. On the 10, 20 and 50 cent circulation coins, however, a modernized and somewhat abstract version is used:

The ones you show in the first pictures are collector coins, not made for circulation. (These two cost more than face, by the way.) And then a mix of Marianne and Semeuse appears on some recent silver and gold coins which do not circulate either but can be had at face value.

A fairly modern style too, but more elegant than the Semeuse on the circulation coins ...
