Okay there is a elderly man that comes to the store I work at that wants to sell me basically a photo album of coins 23 pages 30 coins per page they consist of 9 pages of pennies ranging 1909 -57, 3 pages of pennies 1860 - 1907, 2 pages of pennies from 1857 -1858, 2 1/2 pages of pennies ranging from 1840-1856, 1/2 page of pennies ranging 1797-1838, 2 pages of buffalo nickles 1913- 1938. 2 pages of 3 cent nickles?? dated 1868-1889 2 pages of 3 cents?? dated 1853-1871. The guy wants 20 bucks for this album. All the coins are in good shape tarnished but the dates are clearly readable and the designs are easily seen. So am I getting ripped off or is the album worth 20 dollars. I do'nt know anything about mint states or anything like that but as I said all coins are legible any suggestions should I buy it or not ??? Thanks for any feedback
For twenty bucks i'd go for it,sounds like most of the coins would be worth 50c-$1.00. Who knows there could even be one coin thats worth the 20$ price.
If all the coins are real you have $11.10 in face value alone. I think the ripoff is the old man wanting just $20 for the whole album. If you dont want it send it to me for $20 plus shipping. You are looking at several hundred dollars in coins at the very least. I personally would tell the man what he really has first and offer him more money if he still wanted to sell them.
The $20 price can be made off two 3 cent nickels. If he has 60 of them, if I am reading his post right, that is at least $500 in 3 cent pieces if you sell them at $8 each.
Well ya'll can tell him that the 3 cent coins are wor th $500...BUT are they??...y'all haven't even seen them..don't know what grades they are...and they might all be cleaned. So here I what I would do....go buy a Red Book...or maybe you can find one at your library...look up the coins in there (REMEMBER...DO NOT GO BY THE VALUE IN THERE...more than likely they are high) and what I do is offer half of what Red Book says. Speedy
I'd go for it just because it's a good deal, but BE VERY CAREFUL that the coins aren't cleaned or counterfeit. That would just be a bummer. That being said, I'd do it in a heartbeat regardless because it would be great to have them in any condition cleaned or not. If they're cleaned, that's a heck of a great coffee table book. If not, there's college money! ~AJ
I don't even know why you asked about this. 99% of the people who collect coins would have probably already bought the album, and the other 1% is thinking it was stolen.
Well I bought the album from him and so far its been a steal on my part. I took the 4 pages of 3 cent piece pages to a local dealer to get a valuation for insurance "I told him" he told me that the value ranged from 25 to 500 apiece and that they were some of the best 3 cent pieces hes ever seen, also that I should invest in some capsules and get them out of the plastic sleeves. Im going to take the rest of the album in tomorrow to see what he has to say about it.As for the man that sold me the album I have bought another one from him mostly quarters and dimes, and he said he will bring me in an album a week until hes sold them all up. So im begininng to think something is medically wrong with this man and hes just getting rid of his collection. I've known him for 15 years and know that he has no family. So I guess Im the closest thing to a friend he has left, anyhow whatever these coins turn out to be worth I would,nt sell them anyway I'll just give them to my son once he's old and responsible enough he allready collects Star Wars items and Hot Wheels . so Ill get him started on coins now. Thanks for the replies btw, now all I need to do is get a digital camera so I can post some pics of theese coins..
You may want to see if the man has Altzeimer's. A member on another forumhad a man try to pay 3 times for the same item through paypal. He did not realize the problem until he called the man to tell him and talked to his wife and found the problem.
