Supply and Demand - plus insanity,

Supply and Demand, it's just that simple as with most things in the market.
The insanity is having such a beautiful coin and some how thinking you must have it graded - they are all gems to begin with.
Sooner or later they ones in original packaging will bring the most money as they should.
Sooner or later the price will settle to between $1500 and $2200 depending on gold and like so many other coins they will be available everywhere - just ask yourself when as this not been the case?

People paying for third party graded modern coins, that are all by nature MS or Pr.-67 to MS or Pr.-69 to begin with are a strange type to me. I have tried and tried to find one bit of logic in it and I cannot.

We have MS-69 NGC or PCGS sets of silver eagles come in each month and nobody, I mean nobody offers anymore for them that a raw set.
I guess I will never get this one???????

    2 follow ups....

i get the feeling a lot of people are not a fan of getting coins of ebay. where do you get your coins from? i currently get all my pcgs coins from ebay? is there better way to go?

if i pick up the UHR from the mint, how much and how difficult is the process of getting it graded?

I wish we could get this through my boss' head at work. 69 is a "garbage" grade in modern coins. People bid higher on raw in hopes of slabbing and getting the 70 in all it's plastic glory.

I constantly research what 69 and 70 grades are going for on ebay and constanly come up with the same result but I get paid to do it. It's a number on a piece of plastic and people pay good money for that number.

BTW the MS70PL Ultra High Relief went for $3600.

Too me that means that the 69's are Bargains.

Which is why in a different thread I had stated if you bought one, sent it in and got an MS70 dump the 70 and buy a raw or 69 with the profit.
One could actually get the "replacement" coin under spot and, yes, that is a bargain.

I think your right... I call it "fishing for 70's". I know a guy who'll buy 200 Lincoln proofs and send them out for grading. The 69's he tries to flip as quickly as he can--- even at the break even point (cost of coin plus grading)--- so he can recoup his money and buy more raw stock to "fish for more 70's".

I kind of wish you could get coins just simply slabbed (no grading). The NGC holders are quite nice. Slabs are nice for stacking and much more space efficient than coins in the OGP. Plus the NGC holders will aid in preserving the finish on the coin.

So I don't think it is all bad.... and I'll scoop up 69's.... several times I have paid just what the mint was selling the coin for raw... the seller was happy to get more funds for new stock... and I got the benefits of the slab for no more money than if I bought straight from the mint.

The King and Queen of all coins

I have been reading the opinions left by people and for what my opinion is worth like one guy said [it's worth just what you paid for it] I have to say that after collecting the reverse proofs that the mint has so beautifully made for us and all the other georgeous coins that we have been blessed to collect I have got to say that the ultra high relief gold ms70pl has got to be the most georgeous coin I have ever laid eyes on. Almost every ad on ebay for the sale of the high relief coin has the words [the most beautiful coin the mint has ever produced] Look at the prices of the 95W silver proof coins are raking in, I know of one that just sold last week for $13,000 I know its pretty but in comparison to high relief 70pl it cant hold a candle. It would not surprise me to see this coin go sky high in price and I hope it does because it deserves it. I hope I get the chance to own one and I know it will hurt when I pay for it,but I can't wait!

greensafe53 I believe you might be right......But unfortunately you are obviously speaking for the point of view of a collector who collects for joy. Now I don't think that buying one from the mint is bad, in fact I think it would probably be profitable.......... If you sold it right after you got it. I plan on doing this with other coins I have gotten recently. I believe that this is a great time for dealers because people in this country are sitting at home watching their television and see those commercials that say "Buy gold now!" Its really terrible how people are being manipulated. So I do think it is a great time to buy these coins, simply because there is some sucker somewhere around here that will buy it thinking he/she is getting the best investment of his life. This is probably the reason some people on this site will go on all day long about why coins are a terrible investment, simply because it is so easy to get ripped off.

That is my rant. Buy now, and sell now.

Please don't say unfortunatly for the person who collects for joy. Please send me the list of people who don't collect coins for the joy of it,I've got a second to read the list. Also the name of the game for any sale is manipulation that's why people buy things 99% of the time. But I hope you make a ton of money, and do it any way you want to thats the name of the game. Later Bud

Well.......It's not unfortunate if the collector likes what he gets for how much he gets it for.:kewl:. Later Bud.
