I hope we don't "hammer" folks.

I hope we don't "hammer" folks. I am guilty of getting frustrated with some folks who refuse to listen I admit it and I have a gigantic ego that sometimes pervades and clouds my thinking. No doubt about it.
But I always admit I know what I know and don't comment when I don't know - now one thing I know is Lincoln Cents, I may not know much else but I do know Lincoln Cents.

OK, now to make you all crazy....Dimes have not been carefully examined in the same way that other denominations have been. I am working on something here that involves two 1991 D dimes that have markedly different reverses. What is being suggested might be possible. I'm still working out the details but the two reverse dies on my 1991 D dimes are indeed different.

The flames on the torch are different, the lettering is slightly different and the AM situation is similar.

That being said, as it sometimes happens on Lincoln cents, a heavy die polishing can create a space between the A and M. So it is not a slam dunk on my two coins or on the ones in this thread. But having some here, I can say that I've heard of this.

    Thanks,
    Bill

Thank you Bill. I hope there are more of us out there collecting and checking out what may be a whole new beginning in Roosevelt dimes.

You know . . . I know next to nothing about Roosies, but I understood your question and it also seemed to me you were getting slightly hammered by folks who didn't quite understand your question.

I think somebody *did* finally say, essentially that: Roosies have not been studied well, and there may indeed be two varieties. If there is (a big if), then the question will be: it is common or notable enough that anyone cares. Roosies just don't attract very much attention.

But I would hold onto them, and keep asking around. Perhaps there is some Roosie expert somewhere. Keep this coin in the back of your mind.

Foundinrolls I looking forward to see what comes of your research of the 1991-D.I have always thought that there was something different about the 1991-P&D and also the 1997+ 1999-P&D too!

I don't look forward to it - These dimes should not even be

I don't look forward to it - These dimes should not even be in the same room with a Lincoln Cent!
Study Roosevelt dimes? I'd sooner bark at the moon!

And, there, in a nutshell, Zeke, is the reason why nobody here knows the answer to your question! ;)

(And why, even if there is a true variety, why so many people won't care and/or why it's not yet been discovered)

(On another thread, somebody was asking about sleeper coins -- I was waiting for bhp3rd to jump in and say: "yes, it's sleeping, and it's going to keep on sleeping!" ;) )

I guess the Rosevelt dimes are not as popular as the cent that's why nobody really bothers to look for these different varities on these coins. We know anything is possible at the mint.

I don't but each person may collect what they love I

I don't but each person may collect what they love. If we only had ugly coins I would agree - but we have beautiful coins! You are free to collect anything you like - what bothers me is people putting say a Roosevelt Dime in the Category of "beautiful" coin like an Lincoln Cent or a Std. Lib.
If Susan B. Anthony is pretty then I'm blind is all I can say - ugly is ugly and the Roosevelt Dimes is also ugly. It ain't their fault it's the designer's!

True everyone has there own taste in collecting coin. SBA should have never been mint but that is how things go.
As the Lincoln cent and Washington quarter Roosevelt dime were they not to tribute the man as President????

True . . . polio, march of dimes, etc. I'm not one to put down currently circulating coins, but, gee, the design does look awfully flat compared to its predecessor (the Mercury). Perhaps that is due primarily to the nature of what FDR looked like. Lincoln had a beard to make things interesting; Jefferson and Washington (and the Merc) had some serious hair (and "wings" for Merc) . . . . but Roosevelt? Nothing terribly interesting to me, I'm afraid.

They're bringing you to there way of thinking, sholom. The ones who don't collect Roosevelt dimes say they're ugly, boring, etc. JUST WAIT, just wait and see what happens when the mint redesigns this dime. They will be so scarce no one be saying anything about Roosies except " I wish I :thumb:collected them sooner".

Of course, there's nothing contradictory about saying that they're ugly and boring and I wish I collected them! ;)

FWIW, I don't think they are ugly, but I do think that post-64 dimes are a bit, shall way say, uninteresting . . .

1 Day the Roosevelt Dime 1946-1964 MS & PR will be high price coin.I hope. now they are over looked and called ugly one day that will change.and folks that have Gem sets will reap the reward that this coin deserves!
being almost 60 year old I may never see that day but I hope I will!

As long as we're on the discusion of design elements of dimes, here's something to think about............................ Then look at the bronze plate in the second picture a tell me you see the same design in the eye .
