My ignorance of doubled die varieties is starting to show since this is the second coin in the last month that I have needed help pricing. Here are the sellers photos of the coin. The coin does not have any apparent toning but neither does my current 1939 Rev of 40 NGC MS67 and this one represents and upgrade with the QDR as well as improved eye appeal over my current holding.

I would greatly appreciate if anyone can provide me with information about pricing this coin.

The only thing I could find on Heritage was an MS66 that sold for $207 in 2008. The population report in MS66 is 452/16 for PCGS. Again, any info about either the NGC population or price would be appreciated.

I don't want the advertised price to influence the answers posted in response to my inquiry. I will divulge after I get a few responses.

I love early issued Jefferson Nickels,

I really like the "war nickels" the best though.

To cut to the quick , it simply comes down to Demand and Supply regarding pricing of this variety. It is my opinion that the Four Known Specimens graded MS67 by NGC (PCGS pop for this variety is O ) were "cherry picked" from the Omaha Hoard . Both NGC and PCGS do not require this variety to complete a Registry Set. It can be one of three: REV of 40 ; DDR FS : or the QDR which accounts for the low demand in spite of the total known specimens , even in this Grade. So , pricing is somewhere in a limbo of all three varieties , $1000.00 - $2,800.00 . There are a few more DDR's 5FS available in 67 than the QDR, and Numismedia has not published a price distinction for the variety. I would suggest that an enthusiastic variety buyer would cap off at $1,200 - $1,600.00 . I don't personally see this variety in my lifetime increasing much in value. Having said that , this is why we play the game. What's it worth to you?

It is a very nice coin , and you did well in my opinion and a great variety addition to your registry set.

I agree and 2770 points ain't bad either. I am currently ranked 11th with only 45% complete. Top four is definitely within reach upon completion (many years from now).

    A little confused here but,

A little confused here but I will tell you what I know - I have owed both.
The most popular doublED die DDR-001 is in demand but not to hard to find. DDR-001 is not really that much stronger, I think the quad is and it's rarer - I like it better but it does not bring the $$$ the #1 does,
I have no idea about the reverses - I don't generally get into to that - I'm a doublED die kind of guy.
If the first coin is yours with the rev. and doublED die it looks like a beautiful quad die and not DDO-001 often referred to as "doubled Monticello" the last coin does not look like a doublED die at all - that's where I am confused???
I think $1000 to $1200 (maybe a little more) would be the appropriate money for either true doublED die in a NGC or PCGS 67 holder.

2-more things: the die #1 would be easier to sell and in demand but I really think your die #2 is much rarer especially with the rev. and in that grade, much, much, much rarer - there should be only a couple in that grade in existence!

Hi ben , Did you read my previous posts here? Sometime in 1980 an NGC 67 1939 rev of 40 "QDR" VP-002 quad sold at auction for 119.60 As you can see from the link I posted , in 2008 another piece sold for $1350.00 . The VP-002 is the same designation as the Fs-022.5 for this variety in jefferson nickels. IN this grade/variety , there are only 4 known specimens. NGC 13/66 and about 3/or so 65's
