Unless I am thinking wrong isn't a $5 gold only 1/10 ounce? I think $350 for $95 worth of gold is pretty good, even it being 70. Besides PCGS is starting to go downhill IMO, just waiting for people to start realizing it and prices start dropping.:eating:

    Yes it is...
But when PCGS grades it, it'll fetch far more..
One of my friends, sold a MS70 $5 PCGS non FIRST STRIKE, and got $587!

ANACS used to be the grading service by the ANA, but it was bought out in I think 1990. Before the buy-out it was the best but it quickly went downhill afterwards, but its still a reputible TPG.

.....by what do you base that on?....because it can't be the auction you linked too.
For one thing - this one grades PF69DCAM - so right there is one thing that is different.
Next, you have that this one doesn't have FIRST STRIKE, and since that is a bunch of hog-wash anyway....

Next, this coin sold for $480. So $187 differance from PCGS (your buddies) and ANACS (the ebay auction) - I don't call that "far more". And with the grade differance, you can't even start to compaire them.

The truth is that PCGS is over hyped -

Looking at Heritage's archives I see that 2 PR69DCAM examples of this coin have been sold...both graded by PCGS. One went for $488.75 and the other for $460.00. So, this price seems right on to me.

    My bad everybody...
But, which do you prefer... ANACS or PCGS.... There is a reason ANACS isn't as hyped as PCGS...

BUY THE COIN............Not the Holder. And Yes , personally I feel that PCGS is over-hyped . AS the economy stagnates , the market share is increasing for NGC . Oh also , Modern Commems are very suspect in retaining value. IMHO

A good example of buy the coin not the holder - if you know what you are doing then you can spot the ANACs keeps and possible save a little money in making the purchase.

The reason PCGS is perfered by people who don't know any better, is because they are good at marketing themselves. People these days don't like to work and find out the facts for themselves, they want to be told, and PCGS is telling them.

As Mark said - learn to grade, and make sure to buy the COIN not the slab.
