    Hello coin collectors,

I came across this 1 Dollar coin in a drawer, that belonged to my father

As I am NOT a coin collector I was just wondering if it was worth keeping, and what grade it was.

    Thanks in advance

That looks very odd to me...
I want to say it is real, but I don't know for sure...
Put a magnet over it, and tell us if it sticks, if it does, then you got a fake...
If it is real, it is an 1883 P morgan dollar, my guess is cleaned, Almost Uncirculated Details... Might be worth around $20...
Something about the coin just isn't sitting right, is it just me, or do y'all see it too?

It looks weird because it hasn't been dipped. Nice original toning. Also the outside of the rim is fairly smooth. A few knicks frint and back of the rim and on the lady. XF to AU. the front looks to have been wiped off, the back is wonderfull, great eye appeal there, few marks . Leaning more toward au50+. The back carries this one.

If a magnet sticks it would surprise me. Even if it does, keep it!

The lighting just happened to work out. Neat photo

Keep it, keep it! nice momento, nice coin.

Thanks for the quick reply, I did the magnet thing and it did not stick !

The only info on the coin i can give is its been tucked away for roughly 50 years here in Scotland, and coin feels heavy !!

It has also been rattling about a tin with other old British coins ....

Thanks again for your input tmoneyeagles.

I took lots of pics with different backgrounds and the pics I posted were the closest to the coin colour

    Thanks again

Well seems you have an original morgan if not sticking to the magnet, and it should weigh 26.73 grams
Very nice coin, once again, in that condition worth around $20

I definitely agree. It's not natural toning. The dark parts of the coin are in the areas that the cloth and polishing agent couldn't reach. This is especially evident when you look at the "In God We Trust" motto. I came across a few Morgans in my inherited collection where the cleaning was carefully done, but it's nigh near impossible to get in between all of those crevices between the letters. With a loupe, it's pretty easy to spot. On this coin, you don't need a loupe.

Nah, it sat somewhere for many years then was kept in someones pocket for a time as a goodluck token, then tossed in the drawer.:smile

Sorry but it looks counterfeit to me. The 1883 I mean.
