I just installed and started to use Coinmanager 2005 to inventory my collection. So far i really like this program, which gives you a database of half a dozen countries in addition to US coins. I't has a lot of preloaded pics in the database and you can load your own images as well. I find it's quite comprehensive, with bullion value's, commems and even value's for old editions of the Red book. Some of the coin value's seem to be off but it allows for editing any of the info.
I've often thought about starting with a software program for my coins. I currently use an Excel spread sheet which seems to work OK but I would like to get some of the features (photos, etc) that software offers. Does the program update from the web or do you have to do it manually?
yes the program updates values online. I just spent all day(with a long break) entering my entire collection into the database, including scans of about half of my coins(time consuming). The interface is user friendly and the learning curve is easy . I was able to use it about 10 mins after installation. I also started to do an inventory on an exell spreadsheet before i got this, but wasn't into spending the time to learn it. To be honest i got the Coinmanager program from a friend for free, but i definatly think the 65$ price tag is worth it. My only regret is it dosn't do currency
I have been using Collector's Assistance Plus by Carlisls for over an year now and I highly recommend the program. Here a link to their web site www.carlisledevelopment.com/prod01.htm if interested in learning more about the program.
Careful, That is about the time my Collector's Assistant program decided to quit working and I lost everything I had entered. Back-ups wouldn't load into the program either. A complete melt-down. Now I just use a spreadsheet with MS Word. Simple and a lot more dependable. Everything has to be manually entered and updated but I can live with that.
Thanks silver surfer, Silver Dollar Man, and Farstaff. I am still evaluating what I want to do and your information is very helpful. I am dreading Steve E situation because no matter how helpful a computer is, when it (or a program) goes south, it becomes a mighty pain (down south).
