I won a lot of British coins I bid 2 dollars so with shipping 7 bucks. Now the seller doesn't want to sell me the coins. Says he will lose too much money. I informed ebay but they are no help. I guess I could neg him but he doesn't have anything else listed and says he's leaving ebay and doesn't care about a neg. I got a refund from paypal but I really wanted the coins. Is there anything else I can do?
Sellers like that are what give eBay a bad name. I sell on eBay and would never dream of doing that to a customer. Sorry that happened to you. In the future if you buy again on eBay, just deal with people that have a very high positive feedback rating. At least you got your money back. About the only other thing eBay could do would be to suspend his account. The BAD seller already told you he was going to quit, I hope he is not a liar too. eBay needs to do a better job of weeding out these shady sellers.
If you really really want them, I think the only possible thing would be to ask "since he didn't have the ethics to sell at his contracted auction, he could at least cut a fair deal for you at a compromise price". They are basically lost anyway. Jim
That sucks. I'm doing battle right now with a guy whom I paid 10 days ago for a 07 P&D Kenney to fill two holes in my Dansco. He now says that he only has the P and not the D. 5 e-mails later, he says he'll have another seller send them to me "soon." I've lost patience and have given him to the end of the day to give me a delivery date. He has an EBAY rating of over 800 too. I got them at a good price and I don't think he likes the price. Bottom line, I want the coins.....
I agree, unfortunately he didn't fulfill his end of the contract. That's got to be illegal at some level but I doubt it's worth pursuing. See what he wants for them and if it's reasonable you can still buy them...or because he is a crook you can find them somewhere else. I would still leave terrible feedback though. Let's see the auction...so we can avoid any others he might have.
Leave the neg... And you got your money, so I guess the thing to do now, is wait around for another good deal, and hopefully a good seller... eBay seller's like this, give ebay a bad name, and it hurts honest seller's business...
Not much you can do. Be glad you got your money back, be glad it wasn't $700 or $7,000. Sounds like he was newbie who didn't know to set a reserve. New ebay sellers sometimes are desperate for cash, and can't afford the shipping until they get paid. I have been stiffed like you half a dozen times, with newbies or overseas deals I just bid low. . The only ebay deal that cost me more than a hamburger was a land deal for 5 acres in the next county, nearly 2 grand, the county recorder told the seller that it was "against the new zoning laws" and he would be prosecuted if he recorded the deed, (new minimum lot size 160 acres). AND this state has a law baring collection of "illegal debts" (to deter gambling). The seller couldn't deed the land to me, but he didn't have to give the money back either. The seller can never sell his land, but he kept my money.... That was the counties fault on that one. The law was passed after the auction closed, but before the deed was recorded. I had purchased an acre in that county, same area, a year earlier, same kind of deal, ZERO problems the year before, and no, I can't sell that acre of land either. - Still have to pay taxes on it. Buying from overseas is fun. The prices are lower sometimes because the shipping is higher or people are afraid of importing. -But it works against the seller because not as many bidders will take a chance even if they like their stuff. Some really good sellers in Singapore, India has some good ones as well, but watch, you may have to pay with "paisa pay". China has some good ones, but watch for "new" antiques and bogus coins. I will place small bids with no or low feedback folks, nothing I can't afford to lose. I have sold several hundred books on e-bay and shipped to every continent, and purchased coins from all of them. Never bid more than you can lose, and never list something that you are not willing to ship with a minimum bid. Good luck next time.
Man, why do sellers have to be like that? Just greedy people... Once Again Sorry about you not getting your coins... They looked pretty nice
Well, We've all heard of buyer's remorse this was a case of seller's remorse. The auction blew up in his face - too bad it was his problem. When I sold on ebay I used to start a lot of stuff at face value and a lot of it was silver certificates at a 99 cent starting bid. One guy used to bid a buck on them all of the time. He eventually won an auction for face value. Instead of breaking the "contract" I congratulated him and sent the note. Anymore ebay has become a land of "well I changed my mind". Buyers can cancel payment and sellers can refuse to sell. The "contract" is a joke. Be glad you got your money back, leave a negative and move on more carefully.
There's an old saying - A contract is only as good as the handshake of the party. You and the seller entered into a legally binding contract. Howsomever, since Mr. Seller's handshake is no good, his contract is unenforceable as a practical matter. If you sued for specific performance you would undoubtedly win. Since small claims courts (at least in most states) don't have jurisdiction to grant specific performance, and under the American system you can't recover your attorney's fees from the defendant without a special agreement, the bottom line is that getting (and enforcing) that judgment would cost you a huge multiple of the value of the coins.
To me it is almost a shame it is for such a low amount because I think ebay IS responsible if their sellers do not abide by their rules. I think both the seller and ebay have anobligatin here, but for this amount onone is going to take it serious if you would pursue it.
Did you happen to read the Q&A about removing a bid? Read it 1st then look at the item location. I spit out my coffee on that one! ROFL Hope that wasn't you ice?
ACW, Thanks for the morning laugh. I guess the bidder doesn't know OR stands for Oregon. I'll send you the bill for cleaning the bagel off my keyboard.
I just sent him a ebay email through that link you posted. Not to go into too much detail, but I called him a 'real piece of substandard work'.
I've let it go the guy isn't listing on ebay so I guess he has had enough of the fees etc. Let's not harass him. Ice
Sorry Ice,, i got a response back..Im just trying to determine a character profile about this seller, as hes got some stuff i would be interested in. I did get a response back from him I dont mind sharing..all I know is, Im more confused now than ever. As far as his character profile this far, for starters, I think he needs to learn a little about punctuation First off, Who in the hell are you to judge me? Maybe you need to get the WHOLE story before you come talking to me about honour (honor in AMERICA), payment was NEVER received, therefore I WILL NOT SHIP THE ITEM UNTIL I HAVE PAYMENT. UNLESS YOU CAN HELP US, STAY OUT OF IT!!!!
