I just got mine from Union Terminal in DC no hassle only about 75 people in line... On my way over to US Mint office to pick up another 6 then over to Rayburn building tomorrow for last 6... Love this Day!!
Get yourself to a post office -- there's one in Union Station -- and get them stamped. Today. Do not stop. Do not pass Go. Do not collect $200 (until after it's stamped) That's what I did!
Report from DC I started the day, with my wife, at the US Mint office at 9th St. Short line, we were out of there by 10:10 am. Went over to Union Station, where there was a huge line -- at least 100-150 folks -- took 45 minutes or more to get my 6 rolls. There was a guy in line with a box or two of Log Cabin's, and he had a sign on his shirt "will trade my Log Cabins for your Log Splitters". The people in front of me in line told me "don't do it!" They were dealers from NY (I didn't get their names). They told me that the Log Cabin rolls will be available eventually, but I will never have another chance to get "first day" Log Splitters, if I get them stamped. I asked them: how it is possible that a trip all the way from NY to DC is profitable if they can only get 6 rolls. They said that they were going to try to get as many rolls as possible, and get them all stamped. OK -- so that convinced me. I got my rolls, walked about 100 yards to the post office, where the kindly elderly lady was happy to stamp my rolls at no cost. (Umm, if anybody wants these, I'm afraid they are not available at the moment. I am part of a "consortium" of folks to get rolls, get them stamped, and see what we can get for them on ebay.) After lunch, I'm going to return to both the 9th St and Union Station places, and see what's up . . . .
I'm on the mint website, I'm ready to order two two roll sets...Hopefully I'll get them in, in 6 weeks, then I can sell on eBay once they all sold out..
I was on the Mint site at 11:45 and there was no info yet. At 12:01 I hit refresh and the glacier started. lots of people on the site. Still couldn't find any info because the site won't load. we'll see in about 15 mins.
It was glacier-like for me, too . . . but I was persistent, and by 12:11 pm I had completed my order. (I got order #31678... -- did anyone here beat that? )
how on earth were you able to get through? I hit refresh the second it turned noon and the page hasn't loaded yet (15 minutes later)
I've been waiting for 15 minutes..... I selected 2 and clicked add to cart... And just loading...THIS IS BS
Report 2 from DC Went through line 3 times at Unioin Station in DC. I was there total of about 2 hours ended up getting 18 rolls of Log Splitters and walked to post office old lady knew exactly what I wanted when I walked in. Stamped them all and said have a nice day. I said YOU 2. THANK YOU. I am done on my search for now
Oh I know, it's terrible! I just kept on refreshing carefully, and it just happened to load. I also made sure I was signed in beforehand, because I can't imagine how long it would take just to do that! Fortunately, nothing went wrong when I was finalizing the order.
Next time let's coordinate better, so we can say hello to fellow CT'ers! Did the line get any shorter your third time through? I was thinking of going back in the afternoon. Also -- note -- there was *no line* at the 9th St place by 10:40 (I know two people that went between 10:40 and 11am, and they both walked right up and got their rolls)
