As I won the last contest, it is only fair that I host one. I am a member
of the other coin forums, but I must say I feel I have found a home here
at Coin Talk. Thanks Peter, the moderators, and fellow forum members.

    Here is the contest:

What is your best "steal" on Ebay?

Non Ebayers may post to enter. Winner will be chosen at random. Contest
will end on Monday 6/27 at 8:00 PM EST (or EDT, I forget which one we`re
    in).

Winner will receive a BU Silver Eagle. (BU or MS, in any case it will be shiny
    and new) :D

My best steal, huh? Well, if we're not talking coins, then it'd have to be my poker chip set - 500 clay chips, 2 decks of Kem cards, and five dice in a very nice metal case for $50. If we're talking coins, however, it'd probably be some Jefferson nickels I got in BU to fill holes in my collection for $5.00. He and I actually still correspond, and every now and again he sends me new stuff of his own volition! It's very nice, and so I submit my best ebay coin steal as $5 BU Jefferson nickels and a great penpal friend! Not too bad!

Well....so far....mine was grabbing a 2004 Mint Roll Peace nickel set for $20 (including S&H) just before the price on them became truely rediculous (as if $20 wasn't already). Two weeks later, I couldn't find a set for less than $45, and they still haven't come back down.

My best steal on ebay wasn't a buy but a sell. As all the hype about the new Bison nickels was taking off, the ""detached leg error" was noted and I found 4 of them in a couple bank rolls. I posted them on ebay and they sold for $105 dollars. After the fees and shipping I still made $95 for 20 cents in nickels. If I could only get that kind of return on anything else.

Hm...I've had plenty of steals on Ebay! I think my best steal was the one I got my state quarters on. I bought every state quarter, Delaware through California, from both mints, all uncirculated BU. A total of 62 quarters, for $29.95.

I don't know what it would be...maybe Silver dollars for $9 each...maybe some slabs I bought....I got a 1965 SMS MS67 NGC dime for $5 and I see they list at $50 but some of the Auction Co. sell them for $20 so I still made a good deal.

Others are PF Franklins...mintsets and such...

I've only done a few eBay transactions. I guess my closest to a steal was a 1987 mint set for about $12.00--not a steal at all, but the coins were nice.

    Thanks for the contest!

Stricly coin related, I once took a gamble once on ebay that piad off. I purchased a 1943-D FS MS66 PCGS slabbed Jefferson sight unseen. The member was new to ebay and did not post pictures of his merchandise. Well as you can imagine few people will purchase coins of that caliber signt unseen, especially from a newbie. But there was no reserve and I placed a bid around a $25. Well, I won the auction!!! and when I received the coin, it was exactly as described---blast white. You can argue about the fair value for this coin, but I'm guessing approximately $40-$50!!--about 100% return

Bought a 1981 proof set for $12.01 that turned out to be a type II set worth a couple hundred.

    Couldn't agree more.

Not sure of my best eBay purchase. I've picked up several unattributed 1921-D Morgan VAMs. All in the $10-25 range, but valued at much more. I still have most, but I did have one selling spree on eBay. A 21-D 1AU went for $125 (paid $19), a 21-D 1V cost me $15, and I sold it for $100. One of my favorite purchases was a group of five Morgans. The eBay photo just showed a pile of coins. When I received them, one was rotated 45 degrees. Kept it for a year and then sold it for $116 (the five coin lot cost $50).

My most recent find was a 1925-P Peace dollar with the "missing ray" on the reverse for $15. It's on the Top 50 list.

My best internet purchase (not eBay) is still the 1921-D VAM 1AT "Jet O". Paid $18 and still amazed at the selling price of $450.

Nothing great but I got last years nickel set with shipping for a total of 11.00 which was actually less than Mint. Soon after the prices shot up on those sets.

My best Ebay steal was an Apple Airport, mislisted in clothing or something, and I picked it up for $15+s&h (very little!). I actually received a toned letter from the seller, who did feel the need to continue the auction. Of course, I left positive feedback!
