Well, its official that I will have a full set of Canadian small cents from 1920 to 1996. I have a friend holding my last piece, 1923(AU-55). I guess technically speaking it really wont be complete because I don't have the '55 No Shoulder Fold, but unless I can cherrypick one I probably wont be able to get one since the rest of my collection is being AU-UNC.:crying: I will be picking the '23 up this coming weekend. It has a beautiful reverse with absolutly flawless fields with a little lustre left. I can't wait to post pics(well, scans).
Lets see a pic or hear more about them Your in georgia and you collect Canadian? Where did you find them all. What do you have them stored in..
Wish I could take pics, but my camera is broke and now its lost. I just have them in 2x2s with the three holes in a folder. Luckely I cheated on the cents.:kewl: I bought an almost complete set about a year ago. All that was missing was the '22-'26, '47 ML Blunt 7, '49 large denticles, and of course the dreaded 1955 NSF. I was just lucky that I could get the remaining cents(except for the '55) from a great friend of mine. Good Canadian coins are hard to come by here in the South but I get them when I run across them. It makes it a lot tougher for me since I haven't been to any coin shows, but hopefully that will change in May when I go to the Whitman Coin Show for the first time.:goofer: I also have a set started on five cent nickels. But I still have to get the more elusive ones.
Its late but here is an update. The person I was getting the 23 from ended up missplacing it(hopefully he will find it soon). But good news is I found another one for $15! It doesn't look as good, but it fills the hole. Now the set is complete. Just need to upgrade a few. And to finish the update, it turns out I wont be going to the Whitman show after all. The friend I was going with is having his daughter's wedding the same weekend(all this just came up). Congrat to him and his daughter though. So I guess I will go to work like I normally do.:goof:
Very cool, Byrd. I have about 8-10 canadian cents, I need to check the dates......some are fairly old.
1924 cent I nearly forgot, I picked this up while I got the '23. I paid $5.00 for it. It has a little verdigris on George's head and a ding at 5:30, but oh well. It was worth it for the '23.
Completing a set is way cool!!! Congrats again. I was looking through my foreign coins and found 21 Canadian cents....Including a 1955. What is the one you are looking for have? My years are: 31, 33, 35, 36, 47, 2 51s, 55, 61, 64, 66, 2 1867-1967s, 70, 72, 73, 75, 3 81s, & 95. Are any of these key or semi key dates? I know nothing about canadian coinage, and may sell them to fuel my other collections. I have the 55 with me at work.....if you tell me what to look for, I'll tell you if I have it. Bob
The 1955 NSF(No Shoulder Fold) is the elusive one. What to look for is for Her Majesty's shoulder to be bare. The most characteristic die marker is the I in DEI. Look for flared ends. Attached is a scan of what to look for. Would like to see pics of the 31 and 47.
My 55 resembles the one on the right, with the I pointing to a rim denticle. I'll post pics of it and the 31 and 47 tonight. Sorry, it doesn't look like I have the 55 you need...
byrd....Here are the pics you wanted (let me know if these pics aren't good enough and I can retake in the sunlight tomorrow):
The '31 is a keeper. Its VF worth about $5. 1931 is a little better date with a mintage of 3,842,776. And can I see a close up of the 7 in the '47?
