Not a die variety, but a strike thru error or something similar. I bought it at auction for $3.50....I may have paid too much, but I thought it was cool...and besides, $3.50 is a gallon of milk... Whatdya think?
From the pic I would think it was not grease (which is very common ) because the area in question looks depressed. I would say some type of foreign material blocked the die from doing it's business that was rigid like a bowtie scrap or cigarette butt
