I was at my local monthly coin show yesterday in Anaheim and found out that our local coin dealer thief who was caught on video last month stealing coins from a So Cal coin shop (and was jailed then released on bail), is back in jail for trying to sell his ill begotten goods across state lines! :hammer: I believe it now becomes a federal charge, so this guy should be making his new home in San Quentin very soon! Bye bye Jack!

p.s. Long Beach show security has a photo of my now-convicted Bakersfield/Santa Clara coin thief and will be on the look out for him should he try to do some more "shopping" there (see the bottom of this page on my website for his name and photo http://thepennylady.com/coinphotogallery.html).

I am still learning all I can about Early American Copper - but perhaps Colonials will be next! They sure are pretty coins ;)

I just heard they were interviewing a lot of local coin dealers to continue gathering evidence against him. (what's PL?)

Sweet. Jack Campbell was also a fixture at the Tucson shows, he was set up next to me twice. I should buy his sign " Jacks Coins ".......nahhhh;)

ahh! I'm a little slow to learn these blogging shortcuts, just ask my son!

And everyone around here wondered how Jack C. had built up his inventory so quickly! Speculation is he hit most of the local dealers here in SoCal, mostly going through their books and boxes knowing he had those dealers' trust - thank goodness he knew I didn't care for him so he never "shopped" at my table! Most people didn't guess him to be a thief, even though IMHO he was an arrogant a#s! And hooking up with Trader Vxx didn't help his reputation either! Now, unfortunately, he makes Trader Vxx look like a saint !

Penny Lady: you're getting your criminology stuff together nicely; I'd give you an A so far.

NOW, your next mission, should you decide to accept it, is to close down those Chinese counterfeiters!

You know, that could make a great show, or summer novel series, about a detective working for ANA.

Whats the poop on this Jack C dude? A fellow dealer in Cali that steals from his counterparts?
Did he get caught, like this low life? Whats the connection with Trader Vics..the grocery retailer?
    Thanks

Yes, he was a SoCal coin dealer that got caught stealing coins from a coin shop, was arrested, released on bail, then re-arrested for shipping stolen property across state lines. He is pretty much banned from any coin show around here. That's the gist of it for now. When I learn more, I'll be sure to post details.

Trader JOES is the grocery retailer, lol, not Trader Vic. Trader Vic is a coin and paper money dealer.

It's too bad. Jack Campbell WAS a source for great Lincolns, nice XF/AU's and always behind the sheet on dealer to dealer. I have to say this tho, I have purchased nothing from him since his arrest, and never by mail. Only at shows.

Sorry, I forgot to respond to that last question about Trader Vic. Jack C. used to set up with him, but apparently they had a falling out, no idea what about. But Trader Vic has his own less than stellar "reputation" in the industry, so that's what I was illuding to.

All the local SoCal dealers already know to stay away from anything Jack C. peddles (heck, they may have already owned some of his merchandise at one time!). I just hope the out-of-state dealers know better than to do business with him.

Jack would hand you a black velvet pad in a framed box and 4 or 5 Danscos full of coins ( at your table ). You would sort his Danscos and put the coins you wanted in the box. He would give you a bottom line price, OR, either accept or decline your offer.

All the while this was going on, you would give him a few double row's and he would retreat to his table and come back and say " sorry, nothing interesting "

3 days later, you sell a 1931-S raw Lincoln on your website and then you cannot find it. You do not remember selling it and can find no sales records of selling it.

I can't tell you how many dealers I have heard this same story from about Jack - very very sad when you can't trust your own peeps!

OIC...Thanks for the clarification..its all starting to make sence now. it also seems Trader Vics is a restaurant chain as well.
I think its important for this type of information to be shared amongst all of coin collectors. I wouldnt dream of buying off this smuck in the least.
