2 years ago I got 2 peace dollars in my drawer at work a 1922 and a 1923 this is thinner than the 22 and lighter it seems (maybe my imagination) it looks like its either been cleaned or its fake can you tell me. The picture isn't all that great sorry.
Put a magnet over it...If it sticks, you have yourself a fake.. If it passes that test, then weigh both coins, if they are different weights, than you might have a fake... Peace Dollars weigh.... 26.73 grams
I really doubt it would be fake... 1923 peace dollars are a very common date... not to mention it'd probably be more expensive to counterfeit something like that, worth only about 10-15 dollars. Also, if it was cleaned, the cleaner did not do a very good job of getting the gunk off of it. It looks more to me like it has been in the ground for a period of time.
Just glad to know my question wasn't completely stupid. I know in another thread someone was saying they had a counterfeit nickel. Whether its true or not you have to wonder what they would be thinking counterfeiting a nickel... Um might of been a quarter... But reguardless.
The Chinese will counterfeit anything... http://coins.about.com/od/worldcoins/ig/Chinese-Counterfeiting-Ring/Chinese-Fake-Morgan-Dollars.htm
My apologies if I was not clear in my earlier post; I do not believe your coin is a counterfeit. It appears to me that it is just dirty... could have been in the ground for a period of time.
It looks real to me , but like tmoneyeagles said the Chinese will fake anything , and as for it not being worth it what about the guy that counterfeited all them war nickles and forgot the MM on the back , he was going to use them as nickles . rzage
